With sex often featuring on your to-do list while you’re trying for baby, hopping into the sack can become more of a “must” situation than a lust one. But there are ways to keep it interesting…
Pick up dry cleaning? Check. Finish that report? Done. Have sex? Right on schedule.
When you’re trying to conceive, it’s understandably easy for sex to become something you need to do at certain times, part of a routine almost.
But holding onto that spark and most importantly relaxing can make the world of difference when it comes to making a baby.
Keep your TTC sex life interesting
The key is adding something a bit new to the mix.
‘We experience a rise in the hormone dopamine – the same one that spikes when we fall in love – when we experience something novel,’ says Dr. Yvonne Fulbright, relationship author and founder of website Sexuality Source.
So, whether it’s going for a woodland walk and perhaps getting in touch with your wild side, taking a class together or trying a new position from the Karma Sutra, anything new – sexual or otherwise – will help maintain interest and that chemistry you have together.

Communicate what you want from baby making sex
If you’ve had a hectic week and you’re not up for a marathon sex session, then say so. Or, if you’ve bought sexy lingerie and can’t wait to dominate or be dominated by your partner, go for it.
‘The most important thing is making sure you’re communicating with each other about what your needs are, which just depends on the mood and you both as people,’ says Yvonne.
Talk to him about what would turn you both on or even send a cheeky dirty text during the day.
Change your focus when trying to conceive
While this may be easier said than done, try and almost lose sight of your baby-making goal to take the pressure off sex – and you both.
‘I've found so many couples will conceive a second child quite easily, often because they stress about it much less,’ says Yvonne.
So, think of this as your time to make the most of trying out new sex positions and tricks and do anything you want in the bedroom/ bathroom/ cupboard under the stairs.
How’s that for a new goal?
