Our New Working Mum Inspiration

When it comes to prestigious business jobs, one of the most exclusive is leading a FTSE 100 company. The number of women in this position? It’s just been upped to four

With two kids under the age of six, Liv Garfield might be knee deep in toys and more than a little sleep deprived (sound familiar?), but she’s shown mums everywhere that we shouldn't give up our ambitions when we have a family.

The BT OpenReach boss, 38, has just been announced as the new chief executive of water company Severn Trent, leaving BT to start her new role in spring 2014.

The other women holding a FTSE 100 leading role are Carolyn McCall from easyJet, Burberry’s Angela Ahrendts and Alison Cooper of Imperial Tobacco.

The granddaughter of an Everton football club groundsman, Liv has described her experience of being a working parent – and how it’s all about self-belief.

‘I didn’t find getting back on the ladder [after motherhood] hard,’ she told the Daily Mail. ‘For any female to do well in business you have to ignore the fact that you are female. You have got to earn your place based on your own qualities and abilities.’

Talk about high-flying inspiration. And that's what M&B is all about – supporting working mums and mums-to-be.

That’s why we’ve set up our Working Mums Club, to advise and get behind you every step of the way. Feel unsupported at work? We hear you. Struggling to balance career and family? We’ve got the information you need.

Part of this involves some fab Q&A sessions on our Facebook page with inspirational working parents.
