Louise Broadbridge

Louise is one of the UKs most recognisable midwives but is more commonly known as The Honest Midwife.  Her straightforward approach, combined with a deep commitment to providing accessible education and support to new and expectant parents has resulted in her having a large, loyal following.  Her work has had a significant impact on the field of Midwifery and Maternal Health and this year earned her Midwifery Practice Education Trailblazer Award from the Maternity & Midwifery Forum.

Louise has working in healthcare for over 30 years and has worked in various maternity units.  Her “hands-on” experience in both hospital and community settings has equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of labour, birth and the postnatal period.  her live interactive classes which have now supported over 120,000 attendees in the past four year.

Although Louise was already well established in providing antenatal education, the pandemic saw her reach take a significant turn and enabled her to share her knowledge and experience to a wider audience. Louise has grown The Honest Midwife platform to enable those seeking information to access a wealth of resources. These include educational videos, blog posts and social media content.  Louise also runs daily Midwife Meet-Ups which enable new and expectant parents to ask their questions to a real midwife in real time!

Louise lives up to the title of The Honest Midwife and provides a candid communication, often with a good dose of humour.  This approach allows her to address topics that are often otherwise avoided and she always sticks by her conviction that “sugar coating” the pregnancy, labour and birth experience doesn’t do anyone any favours in the long run.

This willingness to address both the joys and challenges of childbirth, without sugar-coating or sensationalism, has earned her the trust of countless expectant and new mothers. Her advice is grounded in clinical expertise and personal experience, making it both reliable and relatable.
