baby sleepwear and sleepsuits

Bodysuits, babygrows, sleepsuits - there's a whole world of baby clothing and baby sleepwear out there to discover! When it comes to naptime though, we would always recommend opting for a sleepsuit as they are designed to keep your baby as comfy as possible throughout the night and regulate their temperature so they don't become too hot.

Also known as a baby onesie, there are several different styles of baby sleepwear to choose from, including short sleeve sleepsuits and sleepsuits with feet. When you're shopping, we suggest you look for comfort first, then ease of changing (front-facing poppers are best, especially when you're lifting them out of their cot or crib to change them at night) followed by the pretty patterns.

What should babies wear to bed?

Wondering "when should my baby wear a sleepsuit"? If your little one's room is below 20 degrees, they should wear a sleepsuit. Expert Midwife Pip says that you shouldn't overdress them in too many layers, especially in summer, as this could cause them to overheat and potentially lead to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

Here's some guidance on what baby sleepwear layers to use for each room temperature:

Under 16 degrees: 2.5 Tog Sleeping Bag + Sleepsuit + Vest

17°c- 20°c: 2.5 Tog Sleeping Bag + Sleepsuit

20°c- 22°c: 1 Tog Sleeping Bag + Sleepsuit

22°c- 24°c: Sleepsuit

24°c- 27°c: Vest +/- 0.5 Tog Sleeping Bag

Over 27°c: Nappy
