If you're looking for sustainable baby clothes that will stand the test of time, we've rounded up five of our favourites here.
From raincoats made out of plastic bottles to cosy merino wool and 100% organic cotton garments, here are our top choices:
sustainable clothes
1) Frugi
Frugi is a British children's completely organic clothing brand. All of their clothes are made from 90% of organic cotton and strives to be as ethical as possible.
Their packaging is also biodegradable and 1 per cent of profits are donated to charity each year. They were also awarded Kids Brand of the Year by the Drapers Independents Awards 2019.
2) The Bright Company
We absolutely love the gorgeous patterns at The Bright Company, a sleepwear specialist that makes unisex pyjamas for both adults and kids!
The Bright Company puts comfort first, the clothing range is made from GOTS-certified organic cotton and meets Oeko-Tex standard 100 guidelines.
The range is stylish and very stretchy, meaning littles ones are never constrained and can move around easily in these cosy garments.
3) Newbie
Newbie is a Swedish clothing brand with stores in Richmond and Kingston, making beautiful clothes for children ages 0-8 years old.
The style is timeless, with a modern twist, and more importantly – for a sustainable clothing range, it’s affordable.
Newbie makes their beautiful pieces from 100% organic cotton, or recycled materials, and are leading the way as a brand that promotes children’s sustainable fashion, without the hefty price tag.
4) SMALLS
SMALLS is a UK children’s clothing brand, who firmly believe in the power of merino wool. Two New Zealand born friends created the range, so that tots over here could be as cosy as can be, in this miraculously soft, warm material.
According to SMALLS, the magic of merino wool lies in the fact that it keeps you warm when it’s cold, yet keeps you cool when it’s hot.
5) Toby Tiger
Toby Tiger is another British brand, with a reputation for being ethical and organic. They don’t adhere to the rules of ‘fast fashion’, instead focusing on making lasting garments that are made from 80% GOTS-certified organic cotton.
In the long-term, they are aiming for 100%. The Toby Tiger range is full of fabulous, bright prints, suitable for all seasons, as well as being soft on delicate skin.
The range is both environmentally conscious and enviably cute!
6) La queue du Chat
La queue du chat (which means The Cat's Tail in French!) is a lovely French company who make sustainable clothing for kids and babies - with a French flair for design.
They use certified organic cotton with a fair trade production chain, and have a commitment to sustainability through the nurtured relationships they have developed with their producers in Umergam, Gujarat, a coastal town in India.
7) Little Green Radicals
London based Little green Radicals was founded in by Nick 2005, with a passion for fair trade and a quirky sense of humour!
The brand was one of the first in the UK to get Fairtrade certification for cotton and is determined to deliver excellent quality clothing and creative, humorous designs.
8) Piccalilly
Piccalilly is a British baby and kidswear brand that produces organic clothes from newborn up to 10 years.
All the designs are creative and little ones love wearing them, we loved these soft jersey, rocket dungarees, designed with active toddlers in mind. The clothes are not too expensive either, for a sustainable range, which is a plus!
9) Tots Bots
Tots Bots was created in 2003 by a British couple, Magnus and Fiona, who wanted to develop eco-friendly, ultra-performing cloth nappies!
In their own words, they love fabrics almost as much as they love babies, so the result is a range of bright, rainbow-coloured nappies that are comfortable, absorbent and great for the environment.
10) The Kindness Co-op
At its core, The Kindness Co-op aims to promote kindness between people and towards the environment and it also donates to the charity, YoungMinds, with every product sold.
