Baby sleep sprays work in a similar way to pillow sleep sprays for adults. They include natural calming ingredients like lavender, which will gently soothe children to sleep. It's important to take a look at the ingredients included in your chosen sleep spray and to choose a spray made specifically for babies, as some essential oils used are not suitable for little ones.

If you think these could help your little one drift off, we've gathered together the best baby sleep sprays on the market.

When can I start using sleep spray for my baby?

Although it can differ depending on the brand, most baby sleep sprays are suitable for use from six months old. You should always check the product packaging before using it with your child.

How do I use baby sleep spray?

To use a baby sleep spray, simply spray the mist onto your baby's sheets, blanket or pillow (if they are old enough to use one) before bedtime. Baby sleep spray should not be applied directly to your child's skin. Some brands suggest using the spray 30 minutes before bedtime, while others recommend just a few minutes before.

Are pillow sprays safe for babies?

Always check the products packaging and instruction leaflet if it comes with one to check what age baby it's recommended for. As mentioned, many are only suitable for babies aged 6 months+ so shouldn't be used for babies younger than this, as it's not advised to mask the scent between baby and parent before this point.

You should also be mindful of allergens. While many of these contain only natural ingredients, it's worth checking all of the ingredients list to make sure it doesn't contain anything your little one is allergic to.

How we test and choose recommended products

Our product recommendations are based on a combination of real-world testing from our burgeoning army of mum testers and the extensive knowledge of our experienced editorial team and product specialists. Where we can, we also consult experts who specialise in that field to ensure you get the right advice along with the right product, and we listen to what you say as well.

Our thriving mum community on our Facebook group #mumtribe consistently provides great insights into which products mums like best and why, helping us highlight the products that will meet your needs.

For essential products, our annual Mother&Baby Awards shortlist the top products tested. Full reviews from our mum testers can be found on our product pages. The winners and runners-up for each category will also appear in our top picks article for that product, along with other products that were rated highly by our team.
