The Tiny Love Tiny Dreamer is a portable sound machine and light projector in one. It can be used to provide some light white noise/background noise for your little one at night-time or sweet lullabies to soothe them off to sleep.

The light projector also provides stars onto the wall or ceiling in a few different colours providing something for small babies to watch. It can also be used as a portable lantern for toddlers as it can be set to a light glow or brighter light. We asked Mum tester Katie to give this a try with her little one. Read on to see whether it was a glowing success, or a little light on performance.

I have both a separate sound machine and a light projector, and I must say that with these products' sole purpose being either the sound or the projector, they both excel in what they do compared to a combined product. But, a combined product for things like holidays would be more useful to avoid having to pack multiple things and several cables/chargers.

Testing the Tiny Love Tiny Dreamer

The product came nicely packaged in a box and instructions inside how to use it, but I haven’t looked at them as all the buttons on the unit itself where very self-explanatory. It’s priced at around £45 online which does feel quite expensive for the look and feel of the product, it is nice but it’s quite plastic and light in weight. I don’t know how it would fare over time.

I’m a working mum to a little girl who has just turned 3 and I organise trade exhibitions for a living so staying away for shows happens often and sometimes the little one comes to stay overnight mid-week. Something portable like this is great to have in the suitcase rather than bringing two products.

We tested the product for over a month and my daughter is still interested in the sound and light machine putting it on projector mode for stars or using it as a glowing lamp beside her bed. We set the timer function on for 30 minutes, but it does also have a 60 minute option and use this as a guide to say it's sleep time now, so we stop talking about her day or finish reading our books by then. The glowing lamp option does have several levels of brightness which is a great feature as some items we have had in the past are still too bright despite being on their lowest setting. Orange/red/amber lights are best for children at night time, so it was nice to see the product had this within the lamp options.

The product is simple to use as no set up is needed from getting it out of the box. It comes charged to use and comes with a cable to recharge it (great not to have to worry about batteries). The only frustrating thing is it not coming with a plug and finding a plug suitable to work with it as most of our charging plugs around the house now are different to the plug cables for rechargeable products like these.

As mentioned previously, I didn’t need to use the instructions as the product was simple to figure out. But it comes with a little booklet that is easy to follow should you need it, so it has been kept in a drawer for future reference.

I don’t know how long this product will keep the interest of my toddler, but I suspect had we had this from birth it would have been well used by now and would have been part of the bedtime routine. It will definitely still come in handy for some time just having it as a glowing bedtime light.

The light sits neatly on the drawers and doesn’t look out of place being in a neutral colour - so it doesn’t need to be stored away. It's also small enough that should it need to be put in a drawer or cupboard, it would be easy to find somewhere for it.

The light has a fabric on the outside so this could get dirty over time if a child were to have dirty hands and then touch it - but so far it still looks as good as new.

The projector itself is a little disappointing as it is quite static, where it just flicks through a couple of colours. It would have been nice if the stars rotated to hold interest a little longer from a child, or have the ability to choose the star colour as its pre-set. It is a little weak too, in that it can't be too far from the wall or ceiling to get a decent reflection of light. But, as a 2-in-1 product it does what it needs to - it just doesn’t excel in either field compared to the products you can buy on the market solo itself. Sound options are good and you have the ability to use your own MP3’s, personally I feel the shushing sound isn't very soothing, but the main one for us to use is the white noise function and this works okay. The Lullabies are nice to have too.

Final verdict

My overall view is whilst it’s a lovely looking product and being 2-in-1 with the sound and lighting functions, it’s still a little on the expensive side. I would expect to pay around £25 for something like this. It does deliver a good light projection on the wall (if close enough). And it offers various sound options for children who prefer to have some background noise on to go to sleep, or to block out other household noises.

I would recommend it for someone who wants a 2-in-1 product, and it's aesthetically pleasing to look at. But, if you’re just looking for a sound machine then there are other products on the market that excel better in this field. I’ll be looking to let my friend test the product too for her 6-month old baby to see what she thinks of it.
