Benefits of avocados
They're not just called a superfood for nothing! Here's some of the health benefits of avocados:
• Nutritionally rich - avocados are nutrient dense, just half of one can count towards your five a day. They're a great source of vitamin E, monounsaturated fat (great for supporting heart health), as well as containing minerals such as iron, copper and potassium.
• Health benefits - as well as supporting a healthy heart, avocados can also support your eye, skin and hair health.
• Boost immunity - avocados have antimicrobial properties and are full of antioxidants, which can protect you from getting ill.
When can I introduce my baby to avocados?
Avocados, when ripe, are naturally soft, which makes them a great first food for your baby. When your baby can start solids is usually determined by their own development, which is generally 4-6 months for purees and 6 months + for baby led weaning.
How do I know if an avocado is ripe?
While avocados are safe for your baby due to their soft, fleshy texture, an unripe avocado could become a choking hazard. A ripe avocado should have dark skin and be soft to touch. Another good trick is to peel off the cap of the avocado and look at the colour underneath it. If it’s green or yellow then the avocado is ripe and ready to eat.
