Testing the Cosatto Yo!

Build

The stroller came in a smaller box than anticipated and it was even easier to build; it genuinely just needed the packaging removing and the wheels snapping on. That’s it, done. I was pleasantly surprised by how efficient the process was.

The frame is very lightweight and the material is easy to wipe and keep clean. My son's at the sausage roll stage of shopping, where we can't go anywhere without food distractions and getting the crumbs out isn’t hard after he’s dribbled everywhere.

I liked that the brake is incredibly sharp, one quick flick and if you’ve not strapped your little one in, there’s a chance they’ll fly over the handle! But it has a five-point harness system which keeps little ones secured into the stroller, and I did like that it can also be used as a three-point one, which I liked for getting my son quickly in and out of his stroller.

In terms of collapsing the pram, there is a button to push and a handle to squeeze and the whole thing concertinas down into a nice square frame that is perfect for even small vehicle boots (tested in a: Vauxhall Insignia, Fiat 500, Ford Fiesta and Jaguar XF). Because the collapsing process is so easy, it can be done one-handed whilst you’re wrestling a toddler that wants to be put down.

Usability

This pram is relatively deceptive, it can fit through rather small spaces and is exceptionally responsive to direction; very easy to steer one-handed with little effort because of how lightweight it is. However the handle height is not adjustable so for anyone taller than 5ft 5” (I for reference am 5ft 3”) you will feel like you’re stooping. It has been tested on various terrains and loses the ease of pushing when you are not on a smooth surface such as gravel and grass, but this isn't a major issue as it is light.

In order to raise and lower the backrest the Cossato YO! has a toggle system. This makes it very quick to lower when the child is asleep but is fiddly when they wake up and want to sit up. The backrest lowers to an almost horizontal position which is perfect for napping. The toggles however, have stoppers on them meaning that the backrest, even when erect as it can be, is still at a backwards incline.

My toddler likes to sit two ways; laid back, Lording it up with his feet on the bar or bolt upright. The backrest at an incline is perfect for when he’s having his feet up days but means he has to keep readjusting himself when he wants to be sat forward noseying. The footrest is foldable for those toddlers that do want to sit forward and this is also used as a carry handle when collapsed.

The stroller is also airline compatible; to test this we folded the pram up and put it in a family locker during a recent swimming session and it went in the larger sized locker with room to spare. We are yet to use it on an aeroplane but will be testing this for real in October.

The under stroller storage space is bigger than expected and can easily hold a full size changing bag, a handbag and a bag of shopping. It also has a carry handle built into the frame.

Performance

I think this pram is very good value for money particularly if you’re short on space and travel a lot. It’s one of the select few strollers I’ve been able to collapse without instructions never mind doing it one-handed.

Because of how lightweight the frame is it’s easy to pick up meaning you don’t struggle or need to be a muscle mummy to move it around. The carry handle is also a great feature for ease of transport when collapsed. I love that it folds so small and has made going to public spaces a little easier, for example when we went to a restaurant - instead of having to ask for a table in the corner so as not to take up loads of space with a pram, I just collapsed it and put it behind the table.

The weight limit is up to 25kg so age wise this is an open-ended lifespan. My son is currently 15 months and weighs 9.5kg so he will get a lot longer out of it than a toddler on the upper end of the centile scale but as a round number, it should do until three or four years old if needed.

The five-point harness system is great; it can be used as a three but when that bit of extra restriction is needed (such as my son was trying to climb out whilst walking, trying to turn around to stand up etc), it helped to reassure that my son was safe the whole time.

Everything is easily adjustable and I haven’t encountered any issues other than those mentioned previously with the backrest. The bumper bar is removable with a button but it will be a long time before ours is removed.

Final Verdict

All in all, I’m really pleased with the Cosatto Yo! as it's lightweight, easy to put together, erect and collapse, responsive when pushing, comfortable for the child, good space underneath and airline compatible. Being able to have a pushchair that is readily transportable is an ease you don’t know you need until you have it.

The design is nice, and the fabric is great for cleaning post toddler messes and meets the needs for unexpected naps etc. It can grow with the child’s needs as they develop further whilst meeting the parent’s as well. I would highly recommend this product!
