Disney on Ice Road Trip Adventure

The magic of Disney has been around for over 100 years; it's a core part of our kids' childhood, as it was for us and probably for our parents and even grandparents. One of my earliest memories is sitting in a dark and smoky (it was the early 1990s!) cinema watching Beauty and the Beast and being carried away by the songs, the romance and the sheer magic of it all.

You've probably got a few Disney toys. Maybe you've watched all your favourite family films on Disney+. And you're probably waiting eagerly for the release of Frozen 3. But as magical as it is to watch a Disney film on the big screen, there's something about the live version that's even more enchanting. From the costumes to the live music, Disney shows on stage bring an extra dash of sparkle.

And if you're looking to sprinkle a little of that Disney magic into your family’s life this year, you’re in luck. In 2024, some of the most beloved Disney shows are on tour around the UK, bringing unforgettable stories, dazzling performances, and timeless characters to life on stage. From high-energy musical numbers to awe-inspiring ice skating, here’s a guide to the best Disney shows touring the UK in 2024 that your whole family will love.

Disney's Aladdin the MusicalDisney/Deen van Meer

If you've ever dreamt of seeing the colour and drama of Aladdin on stage, your wish has been granted. Embark on a magical journey of wonder and adventure, and prepare for unbelievable sights and indescribable feelings as you watch the musical version of Disney's Aladdin.

London theatre-goers were lucky enough to see Aladdin the Musical during its West End showing from 2016-2019 but this is the first time it's been on tour in the UK and Ireland. It'll be touring until January 2025, visiting Bradford, Southampton Birmingham, Glasgow and Liverpool.

The show is recommended for children aged six and above and under 3's aren't allowed into the theatre (check out our favourite theatre shows for toddlers for alternatives). It runs for 2 hours and 30 minutes with an interval.

Based on the story by PL Travers and the Walt Disney film that's been known and loved by generations since 1964, Mary Poppins on tour features the same timeless songs, as well as some new ones from an Olivier award-winning team of George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. It's sure to be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Bluey fans (mums and dads included!) will be pleased to hear there's a brand-new theatrical adaptation of the Emmy® award-winning children’s television series coming to a theatre near you soon. With an original story by Bluey creator Joe Brumm, and new music by Bluey composer, Joff Bush, Bluey's Big Play promises the charm, laughs and clever stories we've come to love from our favourite Aussie pups.

Join the Heelers in their first live theatre show, brought to life through puppets on the stage. No spoilers, but expect to see Dad wanting a little Sunday afternoon downtime, while Bluey and Bingo have other ideas!

Bluey's Big Play is suitable for all ages and runs for 50 minutes with no interval, so hopefully your little ones will be wriggle-free and have their attentions captured by the larger than life puppets and hilarious storyline.

Tips for Disney live shows

If you're planning to watch a Disney live show, here are a few tips to ensure a magical experience:

  • Book early: Disney shows are incredibly popular and tickets can sell out fast. Try to book your tickets as soon as they become available to secure the best seats.

  • Check the age recommendations: Some shows may have age recommendations or restrictions. Be sure to check these before purchasing tickets to make sure the show is suitable for your little ones.

  • Arrive early: Arriving at the venue early allows you to settle in, find your seats, and avoid any last-minute stress.

  • Dress comfortably: Some shows can be fairly long, so dress comfortably and consider bringing a light jacket or jumper, as theatres can get chilly.

From the magic of the West End to the thrill of ice skating, Disney live shows on tour offer something for every Disney fan. So grab your tickets, gather your family, and get ready to experience 'a whole new world'.
