UK babymoons that won’t cost the earth – The Lake District

Lake Windermere

We can’t all afford to do a Beyoncé and jet off to Bora Bora on a babymoon, but it goes without saying that spending some all-important quality time with your partner before the birth of your new baby is important. Not only does it give you time to reconnect and relax before welcoming your new arrival, but it’s also probably one of the last holidays you’ll go on just the two of you for a little while! Our Digital Editor Jane takes a look at babymoon locations here in the UK, starting off with The Lake District.

For starters, I feel that it goes without saying that when it comes to The Lake District, it’s every part as picturesque and beautiful as you imagine. You will not be disappointed by the postcard-worthy views, whatever the weather. As we set off on our three-night trip to Lake Windermere this October, it definitely felt easier to chuck all our belongings (including raincoats and wellies) into the boot of the car, rather than cramming everything into that one suitcase that met the ever-changing cabin restrictions (and that’s without being pregnant!)

For our trip, we stayed at The Laura Ashley Hotel, The Belsfield and were more than impressed at the hotel’s beautiful surroundings, sat on the Eastern shore of Lake Windermere. Laura Ashely fans, get ready to spend a few nights living in the catalogue you have poured over for months and expect to leave with severe furniture (and wallpaper) envy.

The luxury hotel has a number of different rooms on offer – including lake view, garden view and family rooms for those who are travelling with their tot in tow. What’s more, as a coeliac vegetarian, I was overwhelmed at the hospitality of the hotel’s brilliant head chef Chris, who definitely bent over backwards to accommodate my fussy ways. It’s safe to say when it comes to looking after their guests, this hotel goes above and beyond expectations.

For those looking for a weekend of fresh air and relaxation, Lake Windermere is for you. If you want to join the hordes of ramblers, dig out those walking boots and take your bump for a gentle stroll.

Foodies, you’ll be in paradise with a number of brilliant restaurants a picturesque drive away. If you’re bringing your little ones along with you, there’s more than enough to keep them entertained – from The World of Beatrix Potter to sailing on Windermere itself.

Part of the magic of the Lake District lies in its landscape and however far you feel up to walking, you will not be disappointed. With afternoon tea on every corner and some really beautiful spas to get that all-important pregnancy massage, this is definitely a babymoon location to add to the list. Sure, it might not be a beach in Bora Bora, but you’ll leave feeling as refreshed, without the 20-hour flight!
