Getting a jacket for your little one is essential for helping to keep them warm outdoors without the risk of them overheating, especially if you're out and about running errands, popping into the warmth of shops, cafes, and cars.
Providing an easy layer to take on or off all year round, the right jacket will keep your little boy comfy, cosy, and looking adorably snug.
We've picked out our favourite baby boy jackets available to buy this year that are cute, stylish, and meet our criteria for being the best available for your little one.
Important considerations
-
Material: Natural fibres like cotton are best for your baby’s sensitive skin as they're breathable, warm, and comfy. Baby clothes made from materials like nylon and polyester may cause skin sensitivity and discomfort because of their inability to regulate babies’ body temperature.
-
Safety: You should choose a jacket free of any choking hazards i.e. decorative bows and buttons, or a drawstring closure that could present a risk of strangulation.
-
Size: You should choose the right size for your little one based on their age, but if you’re unsure go for a jacket on the bigger side. This will give them growth room, room for layering if necessary, and make it easier to take on and off.
-
Season: While it may be tempting to choose a thick winter jacket for winter, these can restrict your baby’s movement and make them uncomfortable. If you plan to be out for long periods of time, a warm coat or snowsuit would be best, but for quick trips out, opt for a jacket that you can layer.
-
Style: This is completely up to you! However, you should consider your baby's comfort (a high zip may irritate their neck) and the ease with which you'll be able to put the jacket on and take it off.
Here's our pick of the best baby boy jackets for 2021. Looking for baby girl jackets? Whilst most jackets will suit both baby boys and girls (girls can wear blue too), you can find our pick of the best baby girl jackets here.

Can my baby wear their jacket in the car?
You should keep layers to a minimum in the car as too much padding between your baby and their car seat strap could potentially make their car seat less safe as they can't be secured tightly enough.
The NCT instead suggests laying a blanket over them instead if you're worried about the car being too cold. However, the car can warm up quickly so make sure to check regularly to make sure they don't get too hot.
If you're not sure if they're warm enough, check their tummy as this is a much better indicator than their hands.
