Whether it's their first time trying for a baby, or for the second time, around 1 in 7 couples may struggle to conceive, and celebrities are opening up about their fertility journeys into parenthood.
From miscarriages and fertility treatment to surrogacy and sperm donors, celebrities have opened up about their troubles with getting pregnant and conceiving naturally.
Celebs who have spoken out about fertility struggles
1) Nadia Essex
Former Celebs Go Dating star Nadia Essex recently announced she is pregnant with her first child, and has opened up to Closer magazine about her fertility journey.
"My doctor told me there was one per cent chance of conception. The odds weren't in my favour, as for so long I thought I couldn't have children...it's a miracle!"
2) Anne Hathaway
Actress Anne Hathaway is expecting baby number 2 with her husband Adam Shulman, and she revealed she has struggled with infertility. She wrote on Instagram while sharing her good news: "It’s not for a movie...#2
"All kidding aside, for everyone going throughinfertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies. Sending you extra love 💕"
3) Chrissy Teigen and John Legend
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen have also struggled to conceive naturally.
Chrissy is 'all for talking about IVF' as she replied to a fan who asked: "I know IVF was used for Luna was it used for baby brother also?"
The model also told Peopleshe decided to do IVF again after Luna: "You do the whole process again to try to get as many embryos and eggs as possible."
4) Sarah Jessica Parker
The Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker revealed she had a surrogate mum for her second child, to US Vogue: "We tried and tried and tried and tried to get pregnant,”
“It just was not to be, I would give birth…if I could.”
5) Ola and James Jordan
Ola and James Jordan are now expecting their first childas Ola told Hello magazine: "I still can't quite believe it," after falling pregnant after her first round of IVF in June.
James continued: "When the doctor explained the only route for us to get pregnant would be IVF, it was tough to process.
"It's not something any couple ever thinks will happen to them."
6) Natalie Imbruglia
Expecting her first child this Autumn, Natalie Imbruglia revealed how excited she is to be having a baby after "wanting one for a very long time". She wrote on Instagram: "I’m very happy to announce that I have just signed a record deal with BMG!! What an AMAZING team.
"I have been busy writing for the past year and a half and can’t wait to share these new songs with you all!!!!
"And as you can see from the pic.. there is another announcement... (no I haven’t swallowed a watermelon). I’m expecting my first child this Autumn.
"For those of you that know me, this has been something I have wanted for a very long time and I’m blessed that this is possible with the help of IVF and a sperm donor-I won’t be saying anything more on that publicly.

7) Hayley Tamaddon
Coronation Street and Emmerdale actress Hayley Tamaddon announced in April that she is expecting her first child. She shared her exciting news after mentioning she didn’t think she could have children.
She wrote: "EXCITING NEWS TWEET!! I’m so pleased to tell you all... I’m expecting my first child with my wonderful boyfriend Adrian!! 👶🏻
"I’ve always wanted to be a mum and didn’t think I could have children. And now, at the ripe old age of 42 - I’M PREGNANT! And We couldn’t be happier. 💖"
8) Courtney Cox
Friends actress, Courtney Cox's journey to motherhood hasn't been easy.
The star told Today: "I had a lot of miscarriages, and I don't think that's something that people shouldn't talk about, because ... it was unfortunate but it happens."
She continued: "I didn't want to give up. I just think it's important to get things out there so people can realise they're not alone."
9) Michelle Obama
The former First Lady shared her and Obama's struggles with infertility in her book Becoming.
She talks about intimate details about the troubles they had getting pregnant, including a miscarriage, and using IVF to conceive their two daughters, Malia and Sasha.
She wrote: "No matter how hard we tried, we couldn't seem to come up with a pregnancy."
10) Emma Thompson and Greg Wise
Emma Thompson and Greg Wise have two children, and have been open about their daughter Gaia being conceived through IVF. Greg said IVF was horrible, as he told The Times: "you’re filling your partner full of drugs all the time".
He continued: "Your fertility cuts to the root of yourself as a being, especially as a woman.
"You have the potential of producing life and if there’s a glitch ... I think even now there still are a lot [of people] who think that you’re not a whole woman."
11) Kim Kardashian West
After Kim Kardashian and Kanye West tried hard to expand their family naturally, when trying the second time, they struggled to get pregnant naturally, and have since been through processes of IVF, natural IVF and surrogacy to end up with a family of 6.
In 2015, Kim told ELLE: “I want a boy and another girl; I want it to start happening straightaway,”
"I loved being part of a huge family – and I want that for North. We’d do IVF if nothing happens, but we both want to keep trying naturally."
12) Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness
Becoming parents for actor Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-Lee has been difficult, as he opened up about their fertility journey in an interview with Today.
He revealed: "We didn't know where in the process that would happen but biologically obviously we tried and it was not happening for us and it is a difficult time.
"We did IVF and Deb had a couple of miscarriages. I'll never forget it the miscarriage thing - it happens to one in three pregnancies, but it's very, very rarely talked about."
13) Izzy Judd
Author Izzy Judd and McFly's Harry Judd have been honest about their struggles to conceive, as Izzy toldMummy Socialshe had PCOS and took Clomid to help ovulate.
“I was diagnosed with PCOS and immediately started a medication called Clomid to help me ovulate.
“What followed were months of disappointment as my body didn’t respond to the medication. I very quickly felt depressed, alone and frightened.”
After the couple had a tough time with the medication for months, Izzy and Harry's daughter Lola was conceived through IVF treatment.
