This midwife developed labour duo aims to help pregnant mamas feel calm, grounded and more focussed when in the early stages of labour. It is also perfect throughout pregnancy, especially in the third trimester when you are struggling to relax or have nervous energy.

The kit contains:

  • Spritz for Labour: blended with a combination of pure essential oils; Frankincense, Geranium and Orange, which can help you to feel calm, grounded and more focused. Simply spritz around you and inhale.

  • Labour Rollerball: blended with a combination of pure essential oils; Frankincense, Geranium, Sandalwood, Grapefruit and Neroli, which can help you to feel calm, grounded and more focused and coconut oil to aid absorption. This pocket-sized ready to roll rollerball can be used on the go at home or in the hospital as part of your hospital bag essentials.

Here's what our tester Lizzy, mum of Joshua, two and Eleanor, one week thought of My Expert Midwife Labour Toolkit.

How did this product make your life easier?

I used this product both during my final trimester and for labour. I was practising hypnobirthing and I found this to be an amazing addition to this, they seemed to go hand in hand. The scent of both products is so lovely, very calming and relaxing which is exactly what you want during labour! Because I had used it during my last trimester whilst practising my hypnobirthing techniques, I found that the scent felt very familiar and extra soothing during labour. It definitely helped me to relax, which can be hard to do on a busy hospital ward at the best of times, and especially when bringing a new baby into the world!

I also used this at night when trying to sleep during pregnancy. I found the later stages so uncomfortable and getting to sleep very tricky. I used this in combination with some meditation and it definitely helped me feel more relaxed and helped me to drift off. My husband also commented on how lovely it smelt and that he was enjoying the use of it in our bedroom at bedtime.

Would you recommend this to other parents?

Yes, I would, especially any parents using hypnobirthing techniques too as they work so wonderfully together. Even if you aren't though, the products are brilliant in their own right. The blend of essential oils in them make them feel very luxurious and instantly calming. For anyone anxious about labour, or a cesarean section I would recommend getting this to use during pregnancy. It is amazing at helping you to feel calm, and even the small bottle will last long enough for the last trimester and throughout labour (unless you fall in love with it and spritz constantly!).

Would you choose this product above all others on the market?

Yes, I was already a fan of the brand after having used the famous Spritz For Bits after having my son, so I was excited to try this out. During my first labour, I used a calming lavender mist by a different brand and I found that the scent didn't last long, and certainly didn't work as well as this one. You can use the mist on pressure points as well as just in the air around you. The rollerball is perfect for use on pressure points. I used both together, the rollerball on pressure points and the mist to lightly spritz the air. It was the perfect combination to truly relax, and the scent lasted ages! I didn't feel the need to reapply often as I could still smell them and feel their calming effects long after use.

What changes would you make to this product?

I wouldn't change the product at all as I think it does exactly what it says on the tin. The rollerball is small but a handy size to just pop in your hospital bag. A little goes a long way so I don't think it necessarily needs to be any bigger. The only downside is that they feel quite expensive for the size of the products you get. However, if you were to buy them on offer I think the price is completely worth it and they are a great product to add to any hospital bag.
