BabyBjörn Carrier One

The iconic brand's first foray into the back carrier market has been developed with pediatricians to provide the correct support for your baby's head and hips.

Your child can be shifted from front to back by simply moving a few straps, and you can do this without having to take the carrier off. The generously padded shoulder straps make it a comfortable fit even when you’ve got a three year old strapped on.

BabyBjörn’s Baby Carrier One is safe, sturdy and comfortable to wear. It’s well made, with good attention to detail. The thick, padded straps across the lower part of the wearer’s back are very supportive and the weight of baby is well distributed. The head support is a nice feature, preventing baby’s head from flopping about. The carrier is suitable for both babies and toddlers, who can be positioned to the front or to the rear although a hip carrying option would be useful.

The baby carrieris not entirely intuitive – instructions are essential and even then the product is sometimes difficult to use without help. Manoeuvring a hefty toddler into a back position is challenging without a pair of extra hands. The clips are also complicated with a child already in the baby carrier but once they’re done the baby carrier adjusts with ease.

The adjustable leg zip (that enables a more flexible ‘leg dangle’ position) is innovative and the internal, breathable material is a great feature but it does increase the bulk of the product, which means that it doesn’t ‘pack flat’ – an inconvenience on days out. The carrier is also not comfortable for larger babies – the straps and clips are difficult to adjust and even do up! It’s also expensive but its versatility will be a major selling point for many mums and dads.

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

I started my Baby wearing journey with a older version Baby Bjorn Baby Carrier and upgraded to a more ergonomically one now. But its great to test a updated and now ergonomically Baby Bjorn One Baby Carrier. It felt comfortable to wear.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

You have your hands free so that makes all the difference! But its a bit difficult to put on by yourself and its rather disappointing that it is design without breastfeeding on the go in mind.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

It could use more support on the legs and it also fells very stiff on the back panel.

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow dad?

Comparing it to other Baby Carriers i think the BB One is a little bit overpriced in my opinion. Having started off with a older model of BB when my son was a baby i was interested to see how this new version will weigh up. The legs of my child seem to sit in a nice position although there was a gap where it seems there was too much fabric on the leg padding itself. I do find the carrier itself very stiff and i am not sure if its comfortable enough for my daughter to be in for a longer period of time.

This hasn't been one of my favourite baby carriers to test so i don't think i would reach for this one when i want to babywear my daughter again.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

I think it needs to improve with being less stiff so its a softer seat for the children to be carried in.

I love the fact that Baby Bjorn brought out a ergonomically Baby Carrier and, like many mothers before me, started my baby-wearing journey with my first child with a old-style BB. I like the buckle fasting because it feels very secure although it does involve a bit of practice at first. It's great to see that you have different options regarding carrying babies/toddlers. The Newborn Zip helps you to have you baby in a higher position and the supportive neck straps and flap makes sure the head is supported too. For toddlers you can put them into a lower seat.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

Baby wearing is a godsend, giving you two hands free to do other things while your child is close to you and feels content (or even has a nap). This carrier from BabyBjorn allows you to have some freedom when it comes to looking after siblings do the food shopping.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

I think if BabyBjorn could improve the carrier to be less stiff and add some poppers to the neck support so it can be clipped down, as well as make the shape of the leg padding smaller so there is less fabric and a more snug fit, then it could be a great carrier.

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

I would definitely recommend the Babybjorn One baby carrier to other mums. This is my third baby so I have used some baby carriers/wraps in my time but this one has been the best, quick "go to" carrier for the newborn stage. This is very different to the original BabyBjorn carrier I had 5 years ago and so much more comfortable. My baby absolutely loved being in it and the first time I used it I braved doing the school run in it and it was so comfortable for both me and my baby. It can be used from 0-3 years and I tested it with my 3 year old and she loved it and it was very comfortable still for me, I even managed to get her on my back in it on the first attempt with no help from my husband (getting her out of that position not so each though). Overall so much better than the stretchy wrap I had been using.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

It is so easy to use and has handy instructions sewn into it so you don't need to keep referring to the user manual as your baby grows. It's so quick to get on and baby into it and off you go. I've used it so much more than any other baby carrier I've owned in the short time I've had it purely due to it being so easy to grab and go and the fact both me and my baby are so comfortable in it. It also folds down nice and small so always on hand in the car or buggy for when my baby wants to be held close.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

It would be amazing if the bit that folds up and down on the front was removable. When baby is facing out they tend to suck/dribble on this part and it soon becomes dirty and because this baby carrier is so useful you really don't want to part with it for even a day to wash and dry it so if this part came off so you could quickly wash it and dry it rather than the whole carrier that would be fab.
