Testing the Kids Baby Carrier Deuter Comfort Plus
My son started to outgrow his baby carrier but as we go on a lot of family walks it’s not always easy taking a pram with us, but with the Kids Baby Carrier Deuter Comfort Plus it allowed us to still carrier him comfortably and with items we needed for our walks.
I found the carrier quite comfortable and light when my baby was not in it, and it remained comfortable when my baby was in. It obviously became heavier when he was in the backpack carrier, but it wasn't unmanageable.
I did find that the straps, near my underarms did become a little uncomfortable towards the end of our walk, especially if we were walking any longer than an hour, but it was quite easy to switch with my husband with my son still in the carrier. You could also easily adjust the straps, so I might need to find the right adjustment for me.
Myself and my husband are very different body types and heights, but we have both comfortably worn the carrier. The strap adjustments are brilliant as you can move them up or down for longer or shorter bodies which is really convenient. The adjustments to tighten/loosen straps are great too, however, they're a little stiff to use if you're on your own and need to adjust the straps when already wearing the carrier.
The carrier itself has a cushioned 5-point harness which reassured me that my baby was safe and secure while in the backpack carrier, and the extra addition of the foot rests at each side was a lovely touch for additional comfort for him. He definitely had plenty of room, and wasn’t whiney or uncomfortable while in the carrier.
I found the Deuter carrier quite large, however, I do think it would be used instead of a stroller, so it would be good if it could be stored much more efficiently, such as being able to fold up more. The elasticated pouch pockets are handy for phones or keys, although a zip for extra security would have been better. The section for a drinks bladder is fantastic too, as it means you don’t have to carry a bottle around in your hand!
One thing I did struggle with too was getting the carrier on my back . My husband was able to put baby in the carrier and get him on his back himself, however, I'm not as strong and needed the baby placing on my back. The stand however is a great feature and with some practice, I could possibly figure out a knack for using the carrier independently.
Final verdict
Overall, I think this backpack carrier is great with a lot of well-thought-out features, such as the added sunshade as this also doubles up as a cover from a light shower of rain. I think the cost was on par if not slightly on the higher end in comparison to other similar products I’ve seen, and I think it’s good that it can hold children up to 18kg, so we’ll get plenty of use out of it!
