Testing the Osprey Poco LT Child Carrier Review

The first thing I want to talk about is the price point, as I feel like a lot of people will look at it and then search for a cheaper alternative. However, my advice is don’t! For us, this is a product that is worth the money, especially if you are keen hikers. We already have products from the Osprey brand and we do constantly rave about the quality to anyone who asks us for recommendations.

We find that their backpacks are generally well-made and don’t tend to sag or droop over time like other brands do. It is an expensive product, but when it comes to a practical backpack and a product we’re intending to use for our baby for as long as we can, we would definitely choose paying extra for the quality and longevity.

The carrier is really secure and I liked that it is fully adjustable to suit a growing toddler. The sides are quite high and padded but still fully ventilated, which is reassuring considering baby is on the back and can’t be supervised directly. The straps that secure baby/toddler are also very secure and padded well.

I found that the backpack is really light weight even with a baby in, and also found it really easy to maneuver while wearing it. I’d say that it isn’t much heavier than our normal backpack, which says a lot considering this one also has a baby in the carrier!

To say that this is designed as a backpack carrier, there is still ample storage. I was actually quite shocked by how much storage it has, with different compartments too.

I liked that the backpack was designed for babies who can support their own head, up to being a toddler, meaning we can get many years use out of the backpack. I also think having it suitable from 6 months is good too, as I would be more conscious of the length of hikes I go on with a baby younger than this, as I wouldn’t want them to be tucked in a carrier for too long. It does state that the weight of the carrier is for 16lb up to 40lb, so with this you should get a good 4 or 5 years depending on the weight of the child.

This backpack carrier has really impressed me with how easy it is to use, the storage and the adjustability. The chest, shoulder and waist bands all adjust like on an Osprey standard backpack, which I really like as you can completely tailor it to your own body and comfort. You can even adjust the back length too for a more comfortable fit.

Final Verdict

We are really impressed with the product overall as it has so many helpful features. It has pockets on the waist strap which mean you can store items at an easy reach rather than having to keep taking the carrier on and off, which is handy. It has a breathable mesh panel on the back to increase ventilation and avoid sweat build-up up for the person carrying, and there is a removable sun shade and a fixed-drool pad, these little details make such a big difference. Plus the pack itself can be flat packed to some degree for easier storage and transportation, so it really does tick all the boxes.

FAQs

What do I need to be aware of before getting this carrier?

The Osprey Poco LT Child Carrier is hand wash only. It is compatible with current Poco and previous Poco AG raincovers and carry cases. There is 6”/15 cm of torso length adjustment, suitable and ensuring comfort for most adult users.

What are some of the stand out features?

The stainless steel frame folds down and is lighter than most framed child carriers for ease of travel and storage. A pull-out UPF 50+ sunshade can be zipped away when not in use. The Airscape Suspension foam allows for ventilation while wearing the product. The hipbelt and harness can be zipped away and are integrated with BioStretch seams to offer all the flexibility needed.
