At a glance:

This cute Peter Rabbit themed game is one you'll want to keep for years - just look at the attention to detail! Our mums loved the set and all agreed it was built to last, yet they wished it was a little easier to store, without pieces going missing.

What they say:

“This beautiful play set is based on Mr McGregor's garden. With all of our favourite characters to play with this set is sure to keep your kids entertained for hours. It comes with plenty of different elements for little hands to grasp. A wonderfully, colourful and imaginative traditional wooden toy that will to hardly see the inside of the toy box.”

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would definitely recommend The Peter Rabbit play set to friends and other mums.  The set is beautiful and the attention to detail is amazing. It is durable and easy to wipe clean, though it’s not very easy to transport, as all the individual pieces kept falling out of the packaging once it had been opened (we solved this by buying a separate tub to store these items in). That said, it’s easy to use, and is built to last.

How did the product make your life easier?

The Peter Rabbit play set can be used in one of two ways: as a decorative piece in the children’s bedroom, or, alternatively as a play set. While this particular product doesn't make my life easier as a mum in its daily function, it did provide hours of fun for my three-year-old. She thoroughly enjoyed the play set, and would make up fun scenarios using the characters and pieces. She would also try and recreate scenes from the Beatrix Potter stories, which was incredibly sweet.

Would you choose this product to win?

I would definitely choose The Peter Rabbit Play Set if I saw it in the shop. It is a beautiful design and the characters are instantly recognisable to Beatrix Potter fans and newcomers alike. It encourages imaginative play and looks beautiful set up on the nursery shelf. In my opinion, it should definitely win.

What changes would you make to the product?

The only downside we found to this play set is the fact that once it is taken out of the packaging; it cannot go back in without falling out. I spent a large amount of time under the dining room table collecting all the pieces (we have a ten-month-old who likes to put things in her mouth, so had to ensure all pieces were put away).

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would highly recommend this beautiful wooden toy. My little girl (three-years-old) absolutely loves Peter Rabbit, so this was the perfect toy for her! The toy includes all of the favourite characters from the story, and it comes with plenty of different elements for little hands to grasp. This toy is wonderful for imaginative play and is very high quality.

How did this product make your life easier?

My daughter has played with this toy on a daily basis, which is great when you are a busy mum! It has been a pleasure to see her play so happily and independently, and we have had lots of fun playing together imaginatively. This product is very high quality, so as a parent you do not need to worry about the toy breaking or small pieces snapping off.

Would you choose this product to win?

The Peter Rabbit Play Set is the perfect toy for children who love the Peter Rabbit stories and enjoy imaginative play. My little girl was very excited when this toy arrived and played with it straight away. Using the characters from the story, she was able to recreate the familiar stories she knows so well. The set includes some beautifully made smaller parts such as carrots and a little bird hidden in a bush; little details that I think make this toy extra special. My little girl plays with this toy daily, and has been able to use some of the elements of the play set in other imaginative games.

What changes would you make to this product?

I would not change anything about the toy itself, as it is very well made and high quality. It would be nice to also have the characters of Tommy Brock and Mr. Tod, as my little girl enjoys re-enacting stories with these characters. The only thing I would change would be the packaging, as it took quite a while to get the pieces out of the box. The box was very attractive, but internally the fastenings were a little fiddly.

Tested my mum Natalie Dean for the Mother & Baby Awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this to another mother who has children like my youngest, who is obsessed with Peter Rabbit, as it is a great product to add to your Peter Rabbit collection. However, I do think that it should come with more accessories, as there is not much to arrange for a play session. When you have taken it out of the box it needs to be stored in separate pieces, as it does not have anything to keep the items together.

How did this product make your life easier?

My children played with this product and lost interest very quickly, as there wasn’t too much for them to do. It is well designed and looks great, but I do think that there needs to be improvement in the accessories that come with this product, as while it states it is for children over three-years-old, my nearly four-year-old was not impressed. However, my younger child, who is nearly two, played with this for a little while, as he is obsessed with Peter Rabbit, and seemed to love the set.

Would you choose this product to win?

I don’t think that it should win, as I don’t think that this item gets enough use. It is very plain and simple and unless your child is obsessed with Peter Rabbit, there is isn’t much to do except pretend to plant vegetables and pick them back up. However, it is very well manufactured, and I do think that this toy will last well, unlike some others on the market that are plastic, and tend to snap or split easily.

What changes would you make to this product?

I would add a storage box or bag to this product so that all the items can be kept together, as when the box has been opened, the items are loose, and can be lost quite easily.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

This Peter Rabbit play set is attractive to look at and would look lovely on display in a playroom or nursery. It doesn’t need assembly or batteries (a nice, quiet toy for a change!) and feels well made, so is likely to stand the test of time. All the pieces are beautifully painted, colourful, and are a suitable size, so they appeal to young children. The packaging is nice too, so it would make for a nice, thoughtful gift.

How did this product make your life easier?

It occupies my three-year-old son for a while (which is always a blessing!) and helps to improve his attention span, concentration, as well as his imagination, so while it doesn’t make my life easier, as such, it has had definite and apparent benefits for my son!

Would you choose this product to win?

The Peter Rabbit Play Set is a lovely tool for learning about gardening and growing vegetables. If children were fans of the books or television program, they would probably find it even more enjoyable to play with. It can be used as a learning aid for colours and is great for imaginative play, although I think it is a bit limited in its versatility unless you combine it with other toys, so probably wouldn’t choose it over some of the other products available.

What changes would you make to this product?

The Peter Rabbit Play Set is good for developing fine motor skills when fitting the vegetables into the vegetable patch. However, my three-year-old found it tricky to stand some of the pieces upright, as they have quite a narrow base, and this is especially difficult when playing on a carpet, as the pieces such as the hedgerow and scarecrow often fall over. I would alter the size of the bases so they could be stood up more easily.

Tested by mum Nicola Lyons for the Mother & Baby Awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would, as it would make a lovely gift. It is a solid wooden play set that is beautifully crafted and colourful. The Peter Rabbit design is very sweet, and the set comes in a nice box that is useful for storing the toy once opened. It is also a sturdy toy that I'm sure would last a long time. The play set has lots of different pieces, such as Beatrix Potter characters and garden items.

How did this product make your life easier?

It is a lovely looking toy and my child was happy playing with it for a while. It is a nice addition to her toy box, and would also look lovely displayed on a shelf in her room, as it is a beautiful looking toy. It comes in a very large box, which my daughter found very exciting to open, and the toy can be stored inside once opened, which is very useful.

Would you choose this product to win?

I don't think I would choose this for my own child, as it is quite expensive for what it is. The actual play set is actually a little basic for the three plus age-range. My daughter is three-years-old, and became bored fairly quickly. It doesn't teach anything or have any developmental elements such as numbers or letters. I would be more likely to buy this as a gift due to the beautiful presentation in the box, and because it is a pretty play set.

What changes would you make to this product?

It really needs to be more complex for toddlers, and should feature some developmental elements to help them learn.
