Testing the Avionaut Aerofix 2.0
As a first-time mum I’ve been overwhelmed with all the different brands for car seats and bases, but I gave Avionaut’s Aerofix 2.0 a go alongside their Avionaut Isofix IQ 2.0 base. I’ve been keen to get hold of a car seat that I can use long-term to save having to get another in the future, and this one lasts all the way up until 17.5kg; on average about four years old.
Build
The first thing I noticed about this car seat is how soft it is, which is linked with its cloud care system - I haven’t felt a cosier car seat so far and my son seemed very content when I put him in the seat. With its isofix base, it also has a 360 spin - though it felt a tad too bulky to spin all the way around; having said that, it works perfectly for what I would need it for, which is to be able to spin it towards me to get him out of the car.
The seat is also pretty impressive in terms of price point, for car seats that last up until age four, the Avionaut is very much in line with a lot of the other car seats on the market.
Usability
Once we installed the base for the car seat, which easily fit into the car with a stability stand, we were able to get the seat set up. I was instantly impressed with the base too, it has a beeping and light system for added reassurance. It beeps to confirm the base is set into the floor of the car and then again when the car seat is locked into place - and a third time when it’s unlocked to be taken out.
It also flashes red and green in line with whether it’s locked in or not. It’s perfect! It wasn’t so easy to turn it around once the seat was installed in my partner’s car, but it did fit - it’s just a little snug. I have a bigger, family car and it worked perfectly in that.
Performance
It was quite difficult to figure out how to make the straps a bit looser, but once we had another look through the instructions we were able to put it all together. Once my son gets a little bigger we can remove the newborn insert and that’ll mean it can last up until he’s around four years old - or 17.5kg.
I feel confident in the safety and security of the seat too. It also has breathable ventilation ducts to keep my little boy at a good temperature. I’m happy that I can feel this secure in a car seat for such a long time, but it’s not easy to take in and out due to a lack of handle at the top; however this is normal for this kind of car seat. It’s still possible to remove it if absolutely necessary.
I can also keep on top of the cleanliness too, as the upholstery of the Aerofix 2.0 child safety seat can be machine washed up to 30C.
Final verdict
This product is good, there are a lot of colours to choose from which is lovely to see, and it’s so cosy and comfortable for my son! That’s my favourite part. I would love for it to be a bit smaller to make it easier to go in all cars without compromising the space around the front seat, but that’s just a personal preference. I would recommend this product to other parents, as I do think it’s a great value car seat for what it is and for how long it will last us.
