Testing the Axkid Minikid 3

A few of our testers struggled to fit the Axkid Minikid 3 in their car and found it took them a long time. "This car seat was a massive faff to fit into the car," one mum told us. "It took two people a very long time so definitely not one for easily switching between cars. There is a helpful video to show you what to do but it was still rather a mission! However, once fitted, my little one was very happy and comfortable and it looks really smart when it's in the car.

The extended rear-facing with this car seat pleased a lot of our mums. "I absolutely love this car seat and so does my child," said tester Debbie. "We had the Minikid 2 for about six months and loved it, so was interesting to compare the changes they have made on this seat. The seat supports rear-facing until 125cm/36kg which for me is so important. Rear-facing is proven to be much safer so I want to keep my child rear-facing for as long as possible. It’s straightforward to install and adjust and my child is very comfortable climbing in and out of it. Headflop when sleeping is a thing of the past."

The quality of the car seat was noted too, with testers commenting that it looked stylish as well as being solid and sturdy. "I was not worried that it might move around like other car seats I have tried. Baby looked comfortable in it and had ample space without being cramped or too much space to move around," said Samantha. "The headrest and back space for the car seat has a design which seems to fit into baby's back shape, baby could rest back in the seat and have more comfort than a rigid car seat, while still being secure and protected."

Mum Frances agrees: "I feel it is the best on the market, when strapped in it feels so sturdy and solid. Some car seats I have used and seen almost wobble when strapped in, whereas the Minikid feels almost part of the car itself. I feel really happy and reassured with my little in it when we are travelling especially on long journeys."

Final thoughts

Some testers found the Axkid Minikid 3 car seat too expensive. "I really love the design and the quality but I do find it just makes it a little too out of reach to the majority of the general public. Having twins, it would make the car seats almost £1000 for the two which unfortunately would be unmanageable for me," said Frances.

Other testers commented that they would prefer if the headrest adjusted a little more smoothly without having to push it up to the max before tightening each time.
