The Cybex Aton Q car seat is well-made, lightweight and simple to adjust. The hood is easy to wipe and will protect little ones from getting wet if you need to dash through the rain although the specialised material does tend to snag.

The seat belt fits easily through the slots and round the back to secure the seat and the included strap and buckle protectors keep baby comfy. The support for newborns is excellent, with the seat reclining to a lie-back position, and the  Linear Side Impact Protection System (LSP) is great; the seat offers good support as well as the confidence that baby is safe.

>> WHAT IS AN ISOFIX CAR SEAT?

It comes in a fantastic range of funky colours and is ISOFIX compatible but it is expensive, especially for a product that lasts until only 18 months (13kg) – but for style and ease-of-use as well as safety, perhaps worth the price!

Tested by Funda Gunes, from London, mum to Kaya, six weeks. She said:

The newborn insert makes this seat a good choice for premature or low birth-weight babies. The base is easy to install, but the seat is too heavy to carry far and it’s very narrow – Kaya is 5kg but he’ll have outgrown this well before he reaches the 13kg limit. I think it’s expensive, given that there’s not much room for growth, so it isn’t an option I would choose.

Tested by Sally Coffey, from London, mum to Stanley, six months. She said:

Everything about this shouts quality, from the sturdy structure to the luxurious fabric. Stanley seems so comfy. The four handle-positions are versatile, and the adjustable headrest is so easy to use – simply pull the lever then lift or lower to the required height. The removable insert offers a less upright lying position, which would be great for newborns.

Tested by Rachel Palmer, from Wigan, mum to Dorothy, nine months. She said:

This scored low on style – I think other seats we tested look far nicer. Dottie seemed very comfortable in it, though, and enjoyed being high enough in the car to see out of the window as the world went by. It’s very easy to fit too. There’s only a three-point harness, however, and I prefer seats with a five-point one, as I feel they give better safety.
