With three boys under eight, I’ve been through my fair share of car seats, from bulky baby car seats to the 360 spinning seats everyone raved about at toddler group. Now, deep into mum life and co-parenting, my priorities have shifted once again. I need something lightweight, portable, and easy to move between cars, whether mine, their dad’s, or the grand-sitters’. So, when I read about the features of the Cybex Solution G2, I was all ears and dove right into bringing you the Cybex Solution G2 review.
The high-back booster is designed for growing kids aged roughly three until your child no longer needs one. It's made to move, foldable, and easy to carry, and it's ideal for families like mine who need a seat that works across multiple cars and multiple schedules.
As someone who’s tested a wide variety of car seats over the years, not just as a writer but as a mum in the thick of it, I’m looking for practicality, safety, and comfort in equal measure. My hope was that the Cybex Solution G2 would give me the flexibility I need as I go from manic school runs to every other with Dad.

Testing the CYBEX Solution G2 car seat

Build of CYBEX Solution G2 car seat
Patented Reclining Headrest
The reclining headrest helps keep your child's head tilted slightly back, which means if they nod off on a journey, their head doesn’t fall forward out of the safety zone. It’s not just clever; it’s peace of mind. Of course, if they do the forward slumber, it doesn't help.
Foldable and Lightweight Design
At 5.8kg, it’s seriously light. I can lift it with one hand while wrangling my toddler with the other. The foldable design is ideal for co-parenting or for grandparents who help with childcare. I can pass it between cars easily, or it can be folded down when not in use. It folds in seconds and features a sturdy carry handle for convenience. For me, this is the standout feature and something you should consider if you're always switching between different vehicles.
Linear Side-Impact Protection (L.S.P. System Plus)
This feature adds an extra layer of security for side-on collisions, which is reassuring. Thankfully, I haven’t had to test it, but it’s comforting to know it’s there.

Ease of Setup
The setup is straightforward. Putting in car seats has become a real skill of mine, so much so that I could put it on my LinkedIn page. But even if you are a novice at car seats, this one is notably easy, especially if your car has ISOFIX. It clicks in quickly, and visual indicators show when it's securely in place. There is no faffing around or confusing instructions. Importantly, you can install the car seat with the seat belt if your car doesn't have ISOFIX.
Special Features
• Coloured ISOFIX indicators - show when the seat is correctly installed, which is great for peace of mind.
• Height-adjustable headrest with ten positions - As this car seat is marketed for children from three to 12 years, this is an important feature. I found the headrest adjusts higher than average, making it a worthwhile investment and great for taller children.
• Flexible side wings - adjust to your child’s shape without making the seat feel rigid or cramped. However, this can cause issues if you have multiple car seats close together.
It’s not bulky, but it’s not the slimmest booster on the market, either. This is partly due to the added side protection. That said, it fits comfortably in the back of my car (a Ford S Max) with room for my BeSafe Beyond 360 and the Avionaut MaxSpace Airflow car seats on either side. I’d say it’s a good fit for all cars, but if you have a particularly small car, you might want to opt for a slimline car seat like the Maxi-Cosi Tanza.
Usability of CYBEX Solution G2 car seat

As previously mentioned, the car seat comes with ISOFIX connectors, which simply click into place. The coloured indicators change to green when the seat is properly secured, giving you instant visual reassurance. The seat belt is then threaded through the car seat and clicked into place. The instructions are simple to follow, but the car seat is incredibly easy to install.
If you don’t have ISOFIX, you can secure it using the standard three-point seatbelt, which has clear belt guides that make positioning intuitive. It's not quite as foolproof as ISOFIX, but it's still safe and solid once fitted.
The seat cover is machine washable, which is essential if, like me, you're often dashing into the local Tesco to grab some croissants before breakfast club on a Monday morning. I’ve already had to clean up a trail of Mini Cheddars, and it still looks new.
Performance of CYBEX Solution G2 car seat

Thanks to the safety features I mentioned earlier, I felt confident that my child was safe in the Cybex Solution G2. My three-year-old had plenty of room, so I tested it with my five- and seven-year-olds, too, and surprisingly, they all looked equally comfortable. In my experience, that’s pretty rare. It’s a real testament to how adjustable this seat is; it genuinely adapts to your child’s size as they grow. This car seat is designed for toddlers and up, so if you’re shopping for a baby, you’ll need to wait until they’re at least three years old; this is because this is a forward-facing car seat.
He was comfortable the entire way on a recent one-hour journey on a particularly warm spring day. I noticed that there was no usual sweaty back, fidgeting and complaining. The breathable fabric and adjustable headrest made all the difference.
It’s a real bonus for my family that this car seat can be easily removed and handed over to my co-parent, along with the weekend bag. The same goes for the grandparents, who help out with childcare now and then; it’s simple for them to take and install without any fuss. I also like that the seat folds down for easy storage or transport, though, in all honesty, it’s not a feature I’ve needed to use very often.
Final Verdict of CYBEX Solution G2 car seat
What I really loved about the Cybex Solution G2 is how adaptable and innovative it is. It doesn't conform to the standard car seat features or design. It’s lightweight, easy to transfer between cars, and comfortable enough for long journeys, all while still feeling genuinely safe, sturdy, and stylish. The reclining headrest and adjustable height are standout features that actually make a difference day to day, especially with kids of different ages.
If I could change one thing, it would be the overall width. The side-impact protection is brilliant, but it does mean fitting three seats across the back might be tricky in smaller cars. However, compared to the Cosatto All in All Rotate i-Size Car Seat, it is noticeably less bulky.
This premium-quality car seat offers excellent value for money. It lasts from around age three to 12, making it a smart long-term buy. It feels thoughtfully designed and built to last.
I would recommend this car seat if you’re in a co-parenting arrangement, have helpful grandparents, or just need something reliable that fits into a busy family life.
