At a glance:

The Viaggio 2-3 Flex car seat allows you to adapt your car seat to your child as they grow. Our mums love the wipe clean fabric and the cup holders, which slide back when not in use. One downside is that a few of our testers thought there needed to be some extra padding to make the seat comfier for younger children.

What they say:

“The Viaggio 2-3 Flex car seat is so flexible you can use it for a longer period of time compared to other carseats. Suitable for children from 3 to 12 years (15 to 36 kg) it will be your child’s travelling companion for many years, ensuring safety and protection at every stage of his or her growth. It is technologically advanced and can be adjusted in a number of positions. When not in use it can be folded on itself, so it takes up little room and the fabric is protected over time.”

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I really would! I can see that the seat will last a long time, partly because it appears so well made, but also because you can change the setting easily, so I know I will be able to make it comfortable for my children until they are much older. I like that the seat has sturdy side impact protection, and also that you can change the width of this. I think that this is quite unusual in this classification of car seat.

How has this product made your life easier?

This is a super sturdy seat that is easy to install. I have come across a few of these high back booster seats, but they all seem rather light and flimsy. This is not light, but as it mostly stays in one car it doesn’t matter so much – for me, it feels strong and I trust it to look after my daughter. It is easy to change the height, weight and recline so that the seat is comfy. It is also wipe clean, which is great for a car seat that I hope will last many years.

Would you choose this product to win?

I think that the seat being so sturdy and strong makes me believe it will protect my child in the event of a crash. I also think it is great value for money and will last the test of time. It is wipe clean, which definitely makes my life easier and it has a good amount of recline, which means on long journeys I am not worrying about my daughter’s head rolling onto her chest.

What changes would you make to this product?

There isn’t anything I’d change about the car seat. As I mentioned before, it is rather heavy, but this makes me feel it is well built and will protect my children. I imagine the weight could be an issue for some, but in all honesty, it’s fab!

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I definitely wouldn’t recommend this to my friends or family. For the price of the car seat I could get a similar seat from a high-end brand, such as Recaro. I felt this seat was flimsy and two of my children complained that it hurt their legs. I was really disappointed with the padding. I have five children so have tried several car seats, and this is by far my least favourite of all the ones I have used.

How has this product made your life easier?

The only way this car seat made my life easier was that it was easy to get in and out of the car. That said, I felt very vulnerable putting my child in this seat, as it felt extremely flimsy and not padded enough. My child said it was uncomfortable and this worried me. One plus was that the faux leather material would be easy to clean.

Would you choose this product to win?

I wouldn’t buy this seat over other brands and think Peg Perego need to re-evaluate the price and design of the seat. All of my children have had Recaro car seats and I feel the quality is far superior.

What changes would you make to this product?

I would change the amount of padding on the seat to make it comfortable for little ones to sit in. The head support also seemed to rattle around a bit, which made me question whether or not it would protect my child’s head in the event of an accident.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Yes – I like the fact it suits from birth until around 12-years-old. This, in a way, saves us money as we wouldn’t need to purchase any further car seats in the future. It also has four different positions, again adapted to suit the age range of the child in question. It felt quite padded, with an extendable head support for growing children. The material was a wipe clean leather, which made it easy to clean and I liked the fact it is Isofix compatible.

How has this product made your life easier?

We have multiple cars and so being able to move this seat between the two quickly and easily was fab. The seat also folds down quite small and was light enough to carry a short distance.

Would you choose this product to win?

I think so as it is sturdy, good value for money and I like the look of the seat. The only downside for me was that there wasn’t a five-point harness, but I think this is only because it is what I am used to using.

What changes would you make to this product?

I think perhaps it could include, or even have an available to buy lap tray? The cup holder was great, but a little lap tray would mean my son could sit in his car seat and read his book or use a table to hold his tablet.

Tested by mum Katy Rebecca for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this car seat for a number of different reasons. One of the main reasons is the way it is built, as it felt sturdy and safe which is my priority when looking for a car seat. The design is not only nice to look at, but it was easy to clean and had some great add-ons like the cup holders, which slide back when not in use.

How has this product made your life easier?

Since having this car seat, I have been able to drive knowing my son is comfortable and happy in his car seat and that he has the correct support when I am driving. On longer journeys my son is happy to sit in the seat and the fact the seat is foldable really helps when manoeuvring it from car to car, which is something I have never found in a car seat before.

Would you choose this product to win?

I would choose this car seat above all others on the market due to its stand out features. One of which allows you to make the seat wider, taller and recline a bit more. My son absolutely loves getting in this car seat which is definitely a stand out point for me, as he is usually pretty fussy!

What changes would you make to this product?

The only thing I would change about this product is the amount it can recline. I think it would be good if it could rotate a bit more, just so when baby is asleep their head will not fall forward as much. I think it would also benefit from having a handle, so that when it is folded down it could be transported easier.

Tested by mum Sarah Stevenson for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this car seat to a fellow mum who needed a seat that lasted from age three to 12-years-old. It is good quality, folds up easily onto itself for travel and feels robust. It can also be used with the seatbelt or Isofix, which is helpful and makes this seat adaptable when travelling.

How has this product made your life easier?

This car seat makes my life easier because it is so adaptable. The fact this car seat lasts for nine years is impressive, and means I won’t have to be searching for new car seats as my child grows. It’s also very adjustable.

Would you choose this product to win?

I think it’s a good forward-facing car seat and probably deserves to do well in this category. The downside of the adaptability however, means that it is not quite perfect at any age – it feels a bit too big for my three-year-old, and might feel a bit small for a 12-year-old. That said, this is outweighed by the fact it is a well-made, good quality product.

What changes would you make to this product?

Unfortunately, I would much rather go for a rearward-facing car seat until my child is four-years-old. This doesn’t affect the quality of the product, but if it did have a rearward facing product it would be my go-to car seat.
