I’m a first time mum-to-be and for a little while I had toyed with the idea of getting a Moses basket or small cot for downstairs. It was one of those things I questioned the necessity of; if you have a cot and a next-to-me already, why do you need a third?! But when I started thinking about it realistically, how much would I want to move the different beds from room to room if baby is asleep? I have a three-storey home, so for me it would be bringing my next-to-me crib all the way downstairs, which I wasn’t keen to do. So, when my fellow mum friends recommended that I get an additional smaller cot, I listened.

Testing the Clair de Lune Organic Folding Crib

I couldn’t quite decide on style, but when I came across the Clair De Lune Organic Folding Cream Crib, it looked perfect for me. I love cream items, especially with a more wooden and rustic feel, so with the wooden legs, this was perfect for me.

The recommendation from Clair De Lune is to use this up until the baby is 6 months old, or pulling themselves up, which is exactly what I would expect. For me, this is ideal because the foldable cot also makes the perfect travel cot – and with going away for Christmas and multiple out of town weddings in Spring 2025, our November baby will be just as comfortable away as they will at home. The bed is spacious and will allow our little one to stretch out a they need, so even when they’re about to hit 6 months, I know they’ll be happy here.

It’s lightweight, so not only is it easy to move around the house, but it’s easy to travel with, even if I was going away by myself. The design of the crib is made to be breathable with the mesh sides providing good air flow, so I’m confident with the safety of the design of the cot bed. My only concern down the line would be baby trapping their fingers when it’s being folded, but by the time they’re old enough to be sneaking their hands into places that could hurt them, we won’t be using it anymore.

This bed comes in at £150, and given we will only use it for 6 months, it’ll be going straight into storage and I’ll pull it back out if we’re lucky enough to have another. Foldable cot beds and Moses baskets all come in at various prices, but for something as easy to move and use as this, I’d be more than happy to pay, especially with the ease of travel. Being able to just take the top off, twist the caps keeping it in place and then fold it in half makes it so simple, it’ll come with us everywhere.

When following the instructions, this was incredibly easy to put together, just needing a simple screwdriver. It could be easily put together while you’re pregnant, but it’s easiest to do while sat down – so bear that in mind! I did need help for one part, which was putting the screws in which makes it foldable, just as you need to hold so much. It probably is possible to do it completely solo, but if you have someone on hand for five minutes to keep the legs stable, I’d take advantage.

There isn’t much playing around needed once you’ve got it set up, unless you’re taking it down and moving it, but I’m all circumstances I’ve found it easy and simple - that’s for cleaning too! The sides are fabric, so a fabric cleaner will always be my item of choice, but the mattress comes with a wipeable protector which is water resistant, but even without it the bamboo mattress is naturally antibacterial.

Final verdict

The frame feels solid and safe, so I’m confident using it and already I can see it lasting a long time, so I’ll be saving it for any future babies too. The base of the bed is the most secure part, which doesn’t shake or creak and with a wooden panel at the base underneath the mattress, I know my baby will feel comfortable here too.
