Clair de Lune Organic Palm Moses Basket

I am currently in my third trimester with my first baby and very much in the nesting stage, trying to organise everything that is needed before the little human makes its arrival. Moses baskets are essentially babies first bed and separate haven, so I wanted to make sure I was choosing the right one to suit both baby and my needs in order to maximise its use. Comfort, mobility and sustainability were keys factors to consider when sourcing the right moses basket.

Review of the product

When the Clair de Lune Organic Palm Moses Basket arrived it was perfectly packaged and boxed. I decided to have a folding stand to accompany the moses basket and this needed to be assembled. The instructions were very straightforward and clear with images to put this together (although my partner decided to not follow them; he managed it in the end!). The basket can be easily removed away from the stand with one hand, so it is flexible and simple to use which is exactly what I was looking for. When using the stand the basket feels secure and sturdy with support bands round the head and base. There was a rocking stand option to this moses basket but I chose the stand which was foldable making it portable and easy to store.

I am so pleased with how light-weight this palm moses basket is and have practiced putting it in the car (if we go to see the grandparents), setting it up in the lounge (for during the day naps) as well as in the bedroom (at night). This basket definitely offers the flexibility required and does not take up much space at all. The stand offers additional elevation so we can keep baby safe in their own secure nest without the risk of our dog being too nosy.

Moses baskets have a traditional image to their sleeping space. The selection of colour for the sheet and lining for this model makes this moses basket a unique choice as it changes the look to your preferred style or colour scheme. I kept it classic and opted for the natural cream colour which compliments the handwoven natural palm material used on the basket.

Having naturally sourced products was very important to me as I want to reduce the toxins my baby will be exposed to. The organic lining and sheets support a more sustainable planet as well as being hypoallergenic. This means it is better for the baby’s skin and should offer them a more comfortable, breathable and natural sleeping environment compared to other alternative options. The natural firm bamboo mattress case should help the baby stay safe against bacteria, fungus, dust mites and other allergens. The mattress interior is made from coir coconut fibre and wool, I have learnt this provides a natural temperature regulator to keep baby comfortable in all seasons. These are all positive factors why I chose the Clair de Lune model over other competitor moses baskets. The factory of this brand is based in Manchester so I was delighted this basket was produced in the UK as I feel very conscious over my carbon footprint and try to minimise this as much as possible with items that I purchase.

The product came with 1 x organic fitted sheet in the price. Items like mattress protectors, additional fitted sheets or stands are sold separately. It would have been nice for the mattress protector to be included with the basket as they are highly recommended when your baby does not arrive toilet trained and has extremely high chances of accidents that are not contained to the nappy. I have purchased additional sheets etc so I am ready for quick changes when this does occur. I have followed the machine washable instructions that were clear and the sheets have come out as if they were new – super soft and ready for baby’s arrival.

Final verdict

After researching moses baskets, unlike other baby products, there was not too much price differentiation between them. This item is leaning towards the high end of the price range but for me it was worth it knowing the sustainable materials used; the comfort and firmness of the mattress; the secure and safe sleeping space the basket provides; and the light manoeuvrability the whole item allows to adapt to any environment. Having colour choices and stand options added to the appeal of this product. I will be definitely recommending this moses basket to my fellow expectant friends and cannot wait to see my baby using it.
