When it comes to baby cots and cribs there's no denying that award-winning nursery brand Snuz leads the way with its bedside crib the SnuzPod, so when I had the opportunity to review their latest launch, I couldn't wait.

Launching their 5th generation of their much-loved SnuzPod, the refined SnuzPod5 offers more visibility, breathability, and portability.

Also, knowing that expecting parents redecorate ready for their new arrival, Snuz collaborated with interiors-led paint company, Lick to develop calming colour palettes that complement each and every SnuzPod shade.

With every detail so well thought out, I couldn't wait to get into testing.

Testing the SnuzPod5

As a mum of two, I never used a bedside crib for either child when they were newborns, as traditionally most of my family used Moses baskets and recommended them, and being the first one in the friendship group I didn't dare try anything new. But now as a third-time mum, I've heard nothing but wonderful things about the Snuz's bedside cribs, so I couldn't wait to finally try a Next to Me.

Build

I was really impressed with how neatly everything was packaged in a single box, as it meant there was less packaging to dispose of. One thing that did throw my husband and I off at first was the fact that nothing was labeled. All the pieces are listed in the instructions, so it was a case of matching them up which fortunately wasn't too difficult to do.

The instructions were clear and easy to follow, which was a pleasant surprise. There were a lot more pieces than I was expecting but once it's all built it makes sense, as the cot being separate to the base makes it a lot easier to adjust to the height of the bed!

Usability

Some features I really loved were the shelving underneath and the wheels on the bottom of the SnuzPod5. I wouldn't say wheels are essential, but I used to get fed up of carrying Moses baskets from room to room, especially when it came to bedding my eldest, so the wheels made it much easier to move the bassinet around upstairs so if baby is asleep, I can put them down safely in the same room while I bed my other children.

The shelf feature is also a bonus edition as it meant I could keep supplies for myself and the baby close by for the night and when napping during the day.

I found it easy to adjust the sides too, with a simple zip and clasp to secure the drop-down side in place. Adjusting the height of the SnuzPod5 was a bit trickier as you have to lower the stand, but once this had been done we didn't need to adjust it again, and if we needed to it would be easier now we know what we are doing.

Performance

I was a bit concerned about the size of the SnuzPod5 as it is a larger bassinet than a standard size, however I don't feel it's really noticeable, especially when the side is down and it's actually a lot better for longevity. My daughter was really long, so she outgrew spaces quickly, but with this I'm not concerned at all.

The mattress is comfortable yet firm, I do wish there were more options for mattress covers as they are very simple, but this isn't a major issue as it's more for the look.

I found adjusting the size really easy, and despite the ease of this it still felt really secure. I love that there is a mesh viewing panel from either side of it as well as I do feel like it definitely helps with the correct air flow.

Final verdict

Overall, I am really impressed with the SnuzPod5! It's really well priced for a Next to Me, and I think it's brilliant quality too. We had it downstairs for a short period of time once it was built and we had so many compliments about it!

The only thing I would change about this product is the labeling of the pieces to make the build process that little bit easier, but, understandably, label stickers could leave residue or spoil the quality, so this isn't a major issue.

I would definitely recommend this product to other parents, and for parents who are hesitant about Next to Me cribs, there really is no looking back on it!
