Testing the Lansinoh Wearable Breast Pump

Build

I loved how easy it was to assemble this breast pump. It has four parts which need to be cleaned, making it simple to put together compared to my manual pump which can get a bit fiddly.

It's a good shape for fitting inside your bra, and it is comfortable to wear as well. I don't think it looks as discreet as it implies, as it creates an awkward bulge shape, but it's a lot more subtle than having a manual pump or one with wires.

I've heard that electric pumps can be a bit overwhelming to set up, but I found the adjustments really easy to do and could start expressing straight after sterilising it.

The pump can hold an impressive 180ml of milk, and while it doesn't allow for expressing directly into a bottle, it is easy to empty after use. The pump has an easy pour spout at the top of it, so once you have used it you can pour it straight into a breastmilk bag or bottle without any fuss. I loved this as it can be heartbreaking spilling breast milk, but the easy pour spout helps to eliminate that.

Usability

A lot more simple than a manual that requires a lot more effort, it's so easy to use. I loved that it was really easy to clean as well, as it easily detaches from the motor and then can be washed in the dishwasher before sterilising. It goes without saying that you can't wash the motor/electric part, but I always ensured I wiped the top with a cloth to keep it clean.

The adjustable suction settings and modes were easy to do, with the screen at the top of the pump meaning you can see what setting you're on.

Performance

With my older children, I always struggled with expressing milk in my breastfeeding journey. I wasn't sure if it was down to the pumps I were using, so I was really hopeful that I would be able to express a good amount with the Lansinoh Wearable Breast Pump.

I got a lot more expressed milk using this pump than I ever have, and I've tried quite a few different pumps. I liked that I could adjust the settings and trial different suction modes and speeds, that's not something I've used before. I didn't express as much milk as I would like, but that is probably down to having not mastered the knack of expressing while continuing to breastfeed.

I think the battery life on this breast pump is really good, and I found that even if I forgot to charge it between feeds it lasted a few days for how long I was expressing for. Luckily I'd remember to charge it eventually, so I didn't experience it running flat while mid-use which I imagine can be frustrating.

Final verdict

Overall, the pump is excellent value for money and is actually slightly cheaper than alternatives I've seen, and it offers good settings for pumping so that you can find the right one for you.

While it's not as discreet as I would have liked, I could still use it where I needed to and it was a lot easier to take out the house compared to my manual pump.

I would recommend this for mums as it's really good value and really convenient when you need to be hands free.
