MAM Easy Start Anti Colic is designed as an easy switch between breast and bottle. Their SkinSoft flat teat feels just like mum, which means a high acceptance rate in babies.

Thanks to the innovative vented base, there is an even drinking flow, helping to reduce colic. Plus, with a unique self-sterilisation function bottle cleaning at home or even on the go has never been easier.

Pros

  • SkinSoft teat: A flat soft teat has a familiar feel to babies, meaning they're more likely to accept the bottle. In fact, MAM reports a 94 per cent teat acceptance with their bottles.
  • Self-sterilising: After washing, these bottles can be self-sterilised in the microwave, taking around three minutes to completely sterilise. This means bottles can be sterilised on the go without using the sterilising machine.
  • BPA and BPS free: All MAM products are made from materials free of BPA and BPS. There has been research to suggest that these chemical substances can leak from plastic and cause harm to the body if ingested. Based on the precautionary principle, the European Commission has banned BPA in baby bottles to protect the safety of infants.
  • Different designs: There are multiple colours to choose from such as blue, pink and neutrals. Each bottle features different designs, usually featuring animals from woodland creatures to marine life.
  • Different teat sizes: Each MAM bottle is compatible with the MAM teats, and there are five different size teats to choose from. We cover which teat may be right for your baby in our FAQs section.
  • Different capacities: There are variations in sizes of the MAM bottles, from 130ml to 160ml to 260ml. This means you can start baby on a smaller size and work up as they grow older.
  • Grip: The base of the bottle contains dimples that make the bottle less likely to slip, meaning it's more secure for both you and for baby when they're old enough to hold the bottle by themselves.

Cons

  • Suitable from 2 months: While the MAM Teat 0 is suitable from birth, the MAM Easy Start Anti Colic Bottle itself is listed as being suitable from 2 months old.

Testing the MAM Easy Start Anti Colic Bottle

The MAM Easy Start Anti Colic Bottle is MAM's solution for bottle feeding babies prone to colic. Providing an even drinking flow to reduce the likelihood of trapped wind, the vented base means that your baby doesn't have to work as hard against the air in the bottle to have a relaxing feed. At a glance, here are some things to note about the MAM Easy Start Anti Colic Bottle.

"The anti-colic feature has meant that my baby has had no problems with colic since using these bottles and feeds well when using them with no fuss. The super soft teats mean that baby has taken to bottle feeding with no problems.

"The MAM easy start bottles are offered in various colours and designs. I loved the matt blue colour finish on my bottle and the cute designs also printed on the bottle. The bottle with its subtle dotted grips are easy to hold for both mum and also baby. The bottles come with a handle too, meaning baby can hold on to the bottle themselves when old enough. I would recommend these bottles to anyone who wants a great quality bottle and one which baby will love too. I found these bottles really easy to use when travelling also due to the self-sterilising feature. There was no need to bring extra appliances; I could just pop them in the microwave."

Testers appreciated the self sterilising feature, making cleaning easier: "Absolutely love this brand of baby bottles, so easy and quick to assemble for a anti colic bottle and does exactly what it says. The soft teat and shape was so easy for my baby to adapt to, and initially took to combination feeding easily due to the shape of the bottle teats. I also love the self sterilising feature!"

MAM Easy Start Anti Colic Bottle

They also praised their effectiveness at soothing colic symptoms: "Before I tried these MAM bottles I had used another brand that was heavily recommended. It's my first baby and I knew very little of colic, but unfortunately my baby suffered heavily with it. With the previous brand I tried, I had to buy additional bottles that claimed to help with colic but I found made no difference. These MAM bottles saved me! They transformed my newborn experience and more importantly helped my baby who really suffered with colic."

Our testers helped us to weigh up the comparisons between the MAM Easy Start Anti Colic Bottle and bottles of other competitors, such as Tommee Tippee. Here's what our testers had to say about other competitors on the market.

"Since receiving the products to test I wasn't sure if my son would be ok with the change of bottle. I have now gone out and purchased six MAM bottles as he absolutely loved them. He took to them no bother at all, in fact, he actually took his milk from these bottles better than the Tommee Tippee ones I was originally using."

"The biggest difference with the MAM bottles compared to others is the self-sterilising function. It was really helpful being able to sterilise the bottle in the microwave in just a few minutes without having to use a separate steriliser (and associated time and mess!). The baby also took to the teat really well and happily drank from it, she didn’t get frustrated like she does with some other brands!"

"These bottles have been amazing for my daughter, I have tried her on numerous different brands and she has struggled with them all. First try with MAM bottles and she took to them first time. Amazing."

Final thoughts

Overall, while there are many competitors on the market, the MAM Easy Start Anti Colic bottle remains a bestseller with overwhelmingly positive reviews. The unique selling point of this bottle is the fact it is easily self-sterilised, saving time and resources. This means you don't have to bring your sterilising machine with you at all times, and means you can use your bottle on the go. It's a practical, convenient and innovative solution to bottle feeding.

FAQs

How does the MAM Easy Start Anti Colic Bottle compare to previous versions?

MAM Anti-Colic Bottle: Read our full review of the MAM Anti-Colic Bottle. It appears that older models of the MAM Anti Colic bottles have an issue with leaks and this is something that hasn't noticeably improved with newer models, with reviews still reporting the same issue. The MAM Anti-Colic Bottle also retailed as a single item for around £6.50, so the price has stayed steady since 2015.

MAM UK Easy Start 260ml Bottle: Read our full review of the MAM UK Easy Start 260ml Bottle. This model is extremely similar to the Easy Start Anti Colic Bottle, with self-sterilisation a key feature. The only major difference appears to be that the teats were not interchangeable, as one tester wishes to have the ability to change the teat. A pack of three bottles is available from £19.99, meaning the price has increased to £1 since 2017.

How to sterilise the MAM Easy Start Anti Colic bottle?

In a few easy steps, the MAM Easy Start Anti Colic bottle can be self-sterilised without having to use a sterilising machine. Here's how to sterilise your MAM bottles:

Step one: Assemble the clean bottle parts as follows. First the base with silicone valve, then the teat with the screw ring, followed by the body of the bottle, and finally, the protective cap.

Step two: Fill the base with silicone valve with 20 ml of cool water. You can do this with the protective cap, which doubles up as a measuring cup.

Step three: Place the screw ring with teat in the bottle base, then the bottle body, and finally, the protective cap on top, but do not screw the components together.

Step four: Pop the bottle in the microwave and heat for 3 minutes, but always allow the bottle to cool for at least 10 minutes before use.
