Testing the Nanobebe Flexy Silicone Baby Bottles

These Nanobebe bottles were tested by our nine-month-old daughter. For the past three months she has been using bottles with fast flow teats; as the Nanobebe bottles were supplied with slow flow teats we needed a pair of fast flow Nanobebe teats which were eventually sourced, however our impression is that availability of teats is limited.

Hayley currently has a morning bottle that she has roughly half of (approximately 110ml) and a before bed bottle she generally finishes (210ml). Both bottles are with formula milk.

Over a week of testing Hayley took to these bottles well; she drank similar amounts, with occasionally a small increase in the amount she drank in a morning.

Bottles comprise five pieces. The silicone bottle attaches to a plastic ‘neck’ with a screw fit to accommodate the teat attachment. The lid attaches securely. Teats are triple vented and described as being anti-colic, however as our daughter does not suffer from colic we were unable to assess this feature.

The bottles did not leak, though we’d advise against holding the silicone body of the bottle when filling with milk to reduce the chance of spillages and also to hold the neck of the bottle when screwing it to the teat attachment to ensure a tight fit. As such, it would be difficult to properly assemble a bottle one-handed.

Unlike plastic bottles, the moulded silicone can be squeezed – the manufacturer states its bottles offer ‘Mom-Like Softness – but the bottles nevertheless are stable when upright even on the arms of a sofa and similar. We were confident that the materials are safe for our daughter.

A feature we greatly appreciated was that the bottle measurements are embossed rather than printed – we are no longer able to accurately measure the remaining milk in our existing bottles as the digits have worn away.

A bottle brush with an inbuilt teat cleaner was used to clean the bottles and teats in soapy water, which were then sterilised in a water steriliser. We did note that care was needed to remove any residual milk from the teats.

Nanobebe states that its bottles are both dishwasher and microwave safe, though we did not test in either case. The silicone itself does not give the impression that it will perish with prolonged use, likewise we find it unlikely that the teats will tear.

Although more expensive than plastic bottles, the pricing seems to be on a par with what other brands charge for silicone bottles.

FAQs

  • The main bottle is made up of a squeezable soft, breast-like silicone which is designed to help a smooth transition to bottle feeding, or when combining with breastfeeding.

  • To avoid discomfort for your child, there are 3 anti-colic vents in the bottle teat and a non-collapsible design.

  • It has a stable, non-tipping base prevents spills, an easy-to-read volume scale, and a flexible, wide-neck design for easy cleaning.

How do I clean the bottles?

  • It is dishwasher safe and microwave safe.

  • It can also be sterilized in the Microwave Steam Sterilizer.

What do Nanobebe recommend?
