Tommee Tippee Made for Me In-Bra Wearable breast pump key features

The Tommee Tippee wearable breast pump is a pump you can wear in your bra without being attached to a wired pump. Conveniently, it’s portable and hands-free and allows you to get on with your day with your little one. Some of the key features include:

 • Constant comfort smart technology, which mimics a baby sucking motion for a more comfortable experience to get the milk flowing.

 • A nipple alignment light which helps guide you to the nipple for the best position for milk flow. Especially handy at night time if you decide to pump and not having to put the light on.

 • Feed straight from pump. The bottles connected to the pump are compatible with the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature breast-like teats. Saves having to decant from one bottle into another.

 • You connect your pump to the Tommee Tippee app that gives you live information on your pumping session. It tells you how long you have pumped, adjusts your settings (intensity) and how much milk you have pumped. You can also see a tracking page giving you insight into your pumping in a 24-hour or 5-day view.

 • Charging can be done either via a USB cable or a multi-region plug. Each charge gives four hours of pumping time.

Testing the Tommee Tippee Made for Me In-Bra Wearable breast pump

I wanted to start pumping to build a freezer stash so dad can feed baby when I needed my me time or spending time with my older daughter. I intend to still breastfeed when I return to work so will be great to use when I go in the office. I was looking for a product that was easy to use, where I could move around and didn’t need much faffing with.

I started pumping as recommended by midwives from when my baby was six weeks old and pumped in-between feeds when the baby was sleeping.

When I opened the box I saw that it was nicely presented into different boxes and sections. The packaging is recyclable which is a great touch for sustainability. As detailed in the accessories I thought it came with a lot and having an extra two milk collectors came in really handy, especially if you didn’t have time to sort out from the previous pump session. It also came with a travel pouch which was ideal for keeping the main bits together.

Using the pump

To start make sure both pumps are charged, it will show a red light in the middle of the pump if not. In addition, before use you need to make sure all components are sterilised. Everything apart from the pump itself can be sterilised. You can microwave, boil or steam sterilise (instructions are in the booklet provided). I used steam steriliser after each use as I found it easier and quicker. At first I did find putting the pump together a little complicated but once you have done it a few times it became second nature.

There are seven components that make up the pump. When putting the milk collector together just make sure you line up the coloured dots guide before tightening, as this will make sure everything is in the right place. Also before you put into the pump make sure the lid is central as you will have difficulty attaching it.

The pump itself does feel strong, sturdy and well made, however a bit on the bulky side. It fits in the bra and to avoid stretching, it comes with a bra extender to clip on either side of the nursing clips of a bra. I would say it was not so discreet aesthetically however I found it to be pretty quiet compared to other pumps I’ve used in the past.

You press the on button and the red nipple alignment light comes on, guide the nipple and once in, press the start button. It starts with a gentle massage sensation and then the expression mode starts. There are eight different expression modes which increase with intensity. I found that I needed a stronger intensity when my breasts were soft compared to if they were fuller.

During my first few uses I wasn’t able to express a lot of milk, so I tried the other flanger size which was smaller and that fitted better to get the milk out. Once you have finished your session, press the button on the front of the pump to release the milk collector, you can either at this point; feed directly from the bottle, store in fridge for recommend time or decanter into a freezer bag. I did the latter and have a nice collection built up in the freezer.

The ease of being able to walk around and being portable whilst pumping has helped me massively in two scenarios. One being I can play with my eldest and get stuff done around the house. I would suggest avoiding bending forward too much, the pump will stop if you do, but you just press the start button again and it carries on. I did find on a few occasions when moving about the suction would break and would need to re-attach.

Pumping while in hospital

Secondly, I had an unfortunate trip of taking my 8-week-old to hospital when she contracted RSV and stayed in for four days. As she wasn’t feeding my breasts became really engorged and I knew that the hospital were going to need my milk to feed her via a tube. So whilst I was there I was able to pump without being constricted and able to comfort my baby at the same time. My husband then sterilised my equipment each night before he came back the following day.

Lastly the app that can be downloaded to use alongside the pump was easy to set up and connect to the pumps. If I’m honest I didn’t really use the app much and the only useful part of it was seeing how long I had pumped for. I found that it didn’t correctly measure how much I had collected and always said I was pumping on the wrong breast, although this can all be adjusted before you save the session. You can pump without using the app, but if you like being able to monitor and track what you have done, with some manual input, it is good to use. Please note, if you pump without ending your session on the app it won’t log your session.

Final thoughts on the Tommee Tippee Made for Me In-Bra Wearable breast pump

Overall, the Tommee Tippee wearable breast pump is a well built piece of equipment, it’s easy to use, easy to put together and easy to clean. It’s discreet when pumping and although the pump is a little bulky, if you are at home or working at your desk this is great to have. The different modes get your milk flowing and the helpful accessories of different flanges and the nipple alignment technology ensure you have the most comfortable position. The app I feel may need a little work, but all in all the pump does what it needs to do.
