Aldi Mamia Banana Soft Oaty Bars at a glance

These soft organic oat flake and raisin paste bars with banana flakes are perfect for handy snacks when on-the-go, and their shape makes it easy for little hands to hold.

We spoke to these real parent testers to get their review...

How did this product make your life easier?

Katie: The Mamia bars make my life easier as a mum because they're great for a quick snack for the kids. I know my children enjoy them and are happy to go and sit down nicely to eat them. They're also a lovely size for putting in the changing bag and taking on day trips with us. And they're healthier for them.

Louise: It's very easy to grab and get one of these bars. As they are individually wrapped it meant I didn't need to worry about the rest of the bars going stale once I'd opened the box. It's quite a small and compact product meaning I could leave them in my son's changing bag for a snacks emergency. They're also not easily squashable which makes them a great nursery bag snack.

Shannon: As with most snack items for babies/young children this product is convenient and easy to access when your child is either finished with a meal or waiting for a meal to cool or be cooked for them. Being an oat bar it is durable so you can feel confident that it will remain intact for an outing. As well as this the thickness makes it easy for a 12 month + child to easily and independently enjoy the snack.

Would you recommend this to other parents?

Shannon: I would recommend this because it is an easy and accessible snack that my child has enjoyed. There’s so much to think about and consider when choosing food options for little ones and I find these sorts of snacks are staples in my cupboards as well as when we leave the house. You can feel confident your child can cope with them on their own while they enjoy this independence.

Helen: It is a tasty naturally healthy snack full of organic ingredients and no artificial ingredients or added sugar. It is simply packaged, yet a perfect size for small hands and as a parent handy to keep in a side pocket or bag for a quick, grab and go snack. Also, very cost effective for 6 bars, especially compared to other leading brands on the market that retail over double the cost.

Katie: I would definitely recommend these to my friends and other mums. As a mum myself I'm always looking for value for money when it comes to food and these are definitely that! They're healthier for children but still taste quite sweet so they really enjoy them. Being individually packaged and having a great shelf life too.

Would you choose this product above all others on the market?

Louise: My son actually didn't like the alternative brands version of these but i'm not sure if that's due to the flavours. I would choose this product over others due to price alone as they're very reasonable for a snack bar. I think this product should win because of how tasty it is (and not just for the toddler!).

Katie: I would definitely choose these oaty bars, they're full of flavour and goodness. The packaging is colourful and appealing, and I love the fact that they're all individually packaged. They have a great date life on them too. They're quality for money and have been a great hit in our house with the children.Helen: I most definitely would choose these products over others in the market-mainly due to cost. They also come in other flavours-again similar to other big brand names, yet are cheaper to purchase. As a quick to-go snack that I use for my 1 year old, 2 year old and 4 year old-the cost and organic healthy ingredients ensure that I am providing my children with a nutritious snack that won’t break the bank.

What changes would you make to this product?

Helen: The main thing about this flavour bar-banana, is that it doesn’t really have a banana taste. The bar is very tasty and the children do enjoy it and, well, so do I, but I felt that I couldn’t really taste the banana and only knew it was banana due to the colour and picture on the packaging which states banana.

Katie: There isn't anything I would change about the product. I asked my children what they thought and they said they loved them. They're tasty and you can really taste the banana too. My children are a little funny with trying new things but these went down a treat. I'd definitely buy them again, especially as they're so cheap.

Louise: Although it's handy having them individually wrapped, I'm so conscious of my plastic usage and feel very guilty. If they could be changed to paper wrappers or something more sustainable it would make me feel much happier and save our planet one small snack bar at a time. I think this would make them stand out even further as a market leader too.
