Trying to find the perfect pushchair can be tricky, especially when you're looking for one that won't take up much room in your house or car, which is where umbrella strollers can really help.
We all know the struggle when you're trying to put your pram into the boot while juggling a small child, handbag, shopping, and everything else; we've all given fellow parents a knowing nod when we see someone else having the same experience. With all the different designs, there seem to be a hundred different ways to collapse a pushchair, and it's often a challenge learning how to do it. That's where umbrella strollers come in handy.
They're easy to collapse and pop back open without having lots of different locking clips or twists to worry about (you can even do it one-handed with a little bit of practice). Plus, they are lightweight and compact too, which makes them ideal for travelling or days out. Simply add a pram sun shade for those hot or sunny days, and you're good to go!

Review: "Bought this to use myself for my grandchild when I am looking after him and am so happy with it. The quality is amazing and is very well constructed and designed. I wanted something that I could fit in the boot of my small car and this stroller fits perfectly. It's so easy to fold down and put up which I can do without struggling and the full lie back function is perfect for naps. The buggy itself (black version) looks and feels much more expensive than what it cost and is a nice roomy size which will be perfect for a few years use."

Review: "Great pram, easy to fold, fits in the back of my fiesta so pretty compact. I bought it for my 8-month-old because it will easily last her until she's out of a pram. Originally thought about going for a cheaper pram but this comes with the footmuff, cup holder and rain cover which bought separately on top of the cost of a cheaper pram worked out the same. Plus the pattern is lovely! The liner had already been through the wash and has come out as good as new. Some milk was spilt in the hood but this was easy to clean off with a damp cloth so think it will keep in good condition for a while! I like the leather style handles as previous prams had foam handles which have had chunks break off when getting in and out of the car."

Best durable umbrella stroller
Shortlisted in the 2016 M&B Awards Best Lightweight Buggy or Stroller category.
Available in three different designs, this Silver Cross Reflex pram has an ergonomic backrest that creates a natural cradling position for your baby which helps protect their back and spine. It's easy to convert the stroller into a compact fold, making it much easier to carry.
Tested by mum Alex Pearce for the M&B Awards 2016: "The Silver Cross Reflex isn't just a standard stroller, the brand has gone the extra mile to give you a high quality, stylish product. There are a huge number of colours to choose from (we had yellow and love it). The chassis feels strong and sturdy compared to cheaper strollers I've used. It folds pretty well, although I'm not a fan of the umbrella fold in general.

Review: "I bought this to use for my granddaughter when she comes around and we want to go to the park. At 8 months old she loves it. It tilts back if she sleeps and I put a pair of cosy toes in it to keep her warm. I have tried to use these new modern pushchairs and thrown them to the charity shop because they are not easy for us old people to use. This goes up and down so easy, is sturdy and good enough to keep in the back of the car for when we pop out. Great value and a great little pushchair."

The seat has lots of room for growth. The handle height isn't adjustable, but I found it very comfortable. I like the deep basket too and managed to squeeze about three-days worth of groceries in there."

We love the luxurious look and feel of this stroller with the soft quilted seat liner, footmuff, and rain cover that'll keep your little one warm and dry. It folds super compact, weighing only 7kg for easy carrying, and even has a carry strap and leather shoulder pad included.
Review: "Had this now about 2 months and find it really easy to use. Only request would be for the handles to be adjustable so easier for taller people but it's a good handy buggy for what I wanted. We have the V4 system as well and had this from the birth of our little girl so knew the brand. It's a really good alternative to the higher end brands with the same options of easy one-hand fold, one-hand recline, cup holder and cosy toes but at a much more reasonable price."

What are umbrella strollers?
Umbrella strollers are the perfect solution to any storage problem. As the name suggests, they're as easy to collapse as an umbrella. They are designed to fold down, therefore saving space in your home and in your car. Much like a travel stroller, they're lightweight, compact and easy to carry.
So, why not check out our pick of umbrella strollers? Some of these have even made it into our Mother & Baby Awards, performing well in the Best Lightweight Buggy Or Strollers category.
What age can a baby use an umbrella stroller?
There is no set age, but it's recommended that your little one should be at least 4 months old, although many on our list are advertised as being suitable from birth until about 4 years old. Check with the manufacturer or a health professional if you are unsure.
Benefits of using an umbrella stroller
Often smaller than other options, umbrella strollers are lightweight pushchairs and are practical for those days when you're in a hurry or don't want to lug around a huge pram all day. It can be folded down compactly, making it perfect for storing in the car or by the front door.
The best umbrella strollers: Our verdict
In our opinion, the best umbrella stroller would have to be the Joie Nitro Stroller due to the fact that it's the most highly rated and bestselling on this list. Surprisingly affordable, it even makes our list of the best cheap strollers because of its economical price.
