MAM is one of the leading experts in baby health, safety and well-being of babies. Their dummy clips have been hailed by parents for their durability and are developed for babies of all ages. All MAM soother clips fit all MAM dummies.

One reviewer said: "The amount of times we had to wash and sterilise dummies before buying these was way too many. These have been so handy! Clip to baby’s bib and pop other end on the dummy, when baby drops dummy it stays attached and doesn’t fall on the floor. No need to constantly wash and sterilise a dummy every two minutes."

Pros

  • Washable ribbon
  • Sturdy design

Cons

  • Some users say that they're quite big
Size:‎9.5 x 2.5 x 14.5 cm

Best dummy clip for newborns

This beautiful braided pacifier is made from organic cotton. It has a soft design and is attached by a strong, wooden nickel-free clip. Plus the braiding makes it extra durable if your baby pulls on it.

One reviewer said: "It's so useful, we don't have to worry about anymore lost dummies when we're out and about. It's easy to clip onto the dummy and Bella's top."

Pros

  • Organic cotton
  • Suitable from birth

Cons

  • Wipe clean only
Size:22 cm

Best dummy clip for ring dummies

The NUK dummy clip attaches safely and securely to the baby's clothing. The large, sturdy hook clips easily onto ring soothers.

One reviewer said: "The Nuk Clip is very lightweight. It looks really cute. It also lasts a long time I bought them for my grandchild 1.5 years ago and have now broken down I think the clips last a long time because the children also pull on them and throw them on the floor. Very sturdy"

Pros

  • Shatterproof
  • Available in two cute deisgns

Cons

  • A couple of reviewers say it isn't very durable
Size:‎1.5 x 9.2 x 17.3 cm
Weight:20g

Best budget dummy clips

These machine washable Wendergo dummy clips fit all kinds of soothers. Suitable for use with teething toys (included in the purchase), baby blankets and drool bibs, your baby items will remain safe.

One reviewer said: "These are great! Using the loophole makes sure the attachment that holds the dummy doesn't fall off (mam ones have that Velcro part which my son was able to pull off). The mam dummy fits perfectly it's a tight fit so it can't be yanked off by little hands. Best thing is you can put the material bit in the washing machine and it comes out brand new. The teeth of the clip bit is really strong, my son has not been able to pull it off unlike the mam one that uses a tighten mechanism. Also as the clip on these has a little lever to release its not so easy for little hands to do which is handy."

Pros

  • BPA free
  • Glows in the dark

Cons

  • Not very wide
Size:25.5 x 2.5 x 0.1 cm
Weight:50g

Best for a multipack

We love these brightly coloured Lictin dummy clips as each one is a different colour. This pack of eight can work flawlessly with multiple looks and outfits.

One reviewer said: "Bought these on a whim as baby likes to launch his pacifier across the room when he’s done and then want it a split second later. We couldn’t keep pacifiers sanitised fast enough. We’ve washed and tumble dried these countless times since we got them and they are still perfect. The length is good and the clip is strong. We use them for everything from pacifiers, to teethers and even some light toys. Very pleased."

Pros

  • Rugged design
  • Double-sided patterns

Cons

  • Not very soft

Best basic MAM clip

These two MAM dummy clips can be used with all kinds of soothers and baby accessories, including MAM 0 Months Soothers, 0-2 Months Soothers, 6 Months Soothers and 12 Months Soothers.

One reviewer said: "I love these dummy clips, I honestly don't know how I did without them! The amount of times my little boy decided to spit his dummy out, when in a car park, walking down the street or in a restaurant and that was the last sterilised dummy left and he was having a fit because he wanted it back really was not fun so these were a life saver!"

Pros

  • Flexible ring
  • Velcro fastener

Cons

  • Slightly heavier than other options on the list
Size:9.5 x 2.5 x 14.5 cm
Weight:30g

Best for being easy to remove

The improved soother chain clip mechanism can be opened automatically by pulling back the slider, making it easy to operate with one hand. We love how easy it is to take this dummy clip off when your baby has fallen asleep.

Review: "Really lovely (unisex) design with matching clip. This was my first foray into Mam soothers and son has really taken to them as he also uses the bottles. I like the fact that they can go into his mouth either way up which isn't the case with some brands. Son is now putting dummy back into his mouth on his own so that is important! Clip is also super handy as you just pop the ring over the dummy end instead of having to loop pieces of string through which I did before with generic clips and dummies with rings on the end. Only thing is the shield bit is a bit large and the dummy doesn't look as nice in his mouth as his previous one but the other features are more important and practical. The clip itself could be stronger as it works with a tension slider to attach it and it comes off more than my previous metal snap clip but again, not a major issue."

Pros

  • Easy slider mechanism
  • Compatible with a wide range of dummies

Cons

  • Only one per pack
Size:10 x 5 x 15 cm
Weight:30g

Are dummy clips safe?

Strict EU regulations surround the design and safe manufacturing of dummy clips. It means that any sold via a reputable retailer have to go through stringent tests to ensure the safety of your baby.

Although some of the cute designs available online may look appealing, if they haven't been tested properly, you should not purchase them. All the dummy clips recommended in this article have pasted the EU regulations.

Dummy clips should never be worn when your child is in their cot or sleeping. Babies should always be supervised when wearing a dummy clip to ensure their safety.

Soother expert, Clare Byam-Cook shares her top tips

Clare Byam-Cook has helped many leading celebrities such as Kate Winslet, Kate Beckinsale, Rachel Riley and Izzy Judd soothe their babies. Here are her five top tips regarding using a soother.

  1. If your baby needs the extra comfort of a soother, please do not hesitate to use one.

  2. Some research suggests using a soother when putting a baby down to sleep could reduce the risk of SIDS.

  3. Do not force your baby to take a soother or put it back in if your baby spits it out.

  4. You should not use a soother if your baby is crying because they are due a feed. A soother must never replace a feed.

  5. You are unlikely to need a soother when you're walking baby in a pram or buggy, as the movement should soothe your baby.

Should I remove soother once baby is asleep?

When your baby is sleeping, you do not need to remove their soother; however, you do need to remove a dummy clip. If the dummy falls out once your child is asleep, you do not need to re-insert it. If you're struggling to get your baby to take a pacifier in the first place, it may be worth investing in a dummy for breastfed babies.
