Having twins is a fantastic experience but it can also be trying at times, presenting challenges that parents of single babies don’t need to contend with. To give you a bit of a helping hand, we’ve discovered a few little essentials to make having twins double the fun, instead of the trouble.

Peg Perego Book for Two

A double pram is probably the first (and most expensive) item you’ll buy for your duo so do your research. While not one of the more famous brands, Peg Perego’s Book For Two buggy was the bronze winner in Mother u0026 Baby’s Best Multiple, Twin or Tandem Pushchair category this year and is a real find. Easy to steer, a one-hand collapse and with the side-by-side layout, favoured by parents of twins, this stroller was always going to be a high scorer. Plus, two car seats can be attached if you’re brave enough to venture further afield.Peanut u0026

Having twins? You’re going to need a bigger changing bag. Peanut u0026 Piglet has designed this one with two babies in mind so there’s two easy-to-reach cup holders and it’s much larger than standard changing bags. As any parent of twins knows, being hands-free is crucial and this piece of kit can be worn as a backpack or across the body. It also comes with a nifty changing mat, so you’re never caught short.

Actress Anna Paquin was rarely seen without her Weego carrier when her twins were young and it’s easy to see why. Suitable from birth, even if your little ones are premature, this carrier has been designed to be ergonomically friendly to both babies and mum. It can be put on without help and is machine washable – a must in those early days.

This twist on a traditional breastfeeding pillow uses a “W” shape to grip your waist and allows your twins to nestle close to you. While this nursing pillow is soft (it’s made from a super-soft fleece), it’s strong and supports your babies’ backs as they suckle. It can also be used after feeding as a support pillow as they learn to sit up.

A double breast pump is a must if you are planning to express and bottle feed your twins but there are so many on the market, it can be a difficult decision which will suit you. We asked real mums to road-test Lansinoh’s double breast pump for the Mother u0026 Baby Awards and it was the clear-out winner. A key bonus with this pump is its two different speeds, simulating how a real baby feeds, plus it’s also easy to assemble and sterilise after use.

Breastfeeding one baby is hard enough but add another into the equation and it becomes a real juggling act. This jazzy breastfeeding pillow has been designed especially for mums who need to feed in tandem. Coming in two parts, the back support ensures mummies are in a good upright position, while the U-shaped cushion allows the little ones to be fed while they are also cuddled and snuggled.

If you think it’s hard looking after twins at home, just wait till you have to go somewhere. At least Joie Baby and their innovative Excursion Travel Cot have made journeying that little bit easier. It comes with an integrated changing table and bouncer, which sit above the cot itself and allows one baby to be changed while the other plays next to them.

Invest in an extra-large playmat so your little bundles of joy can interact with each as they discover the world around them. This mat from Mamas u0026 Papas is big enough for two and doubles as a baby gym with teether toys, a peekaboo mirror, bursts of light and music to keep your little ones entertained.

Well done, you’ve survived the first six months of having twins! Next challenge: weaning. When you’ve got two little mouths to feed, anything that makes mealtimes a bit easier is a godsend. This “palette-style” tray allows you to juggle two hungry babies at once as multiple food containers can be inserted into its slots. You can easily keep track of who’s eaten what and then pop in the dishwasher to get it clean afterwards.

Keeping track of the age of your twins can be a challenge in itself so Jojo Maman Bebe have created a set of 48 baby cards so you can record them as they grow. With bright illustrations and colourful characters, these cards are a sweet addition to photographs recording their milestone moments.
