Graco Contempo Highchair

A great value model full of practical features that’s easy to clean and ideal for children up to the age of three, particularly babies. Comes with two removable trays and folds compactly so perfect for smaller homes.

This versatile and colourful highchair has plenty of useful features. The second tray can be used for pudding while you’re cleaning the first, the height’s adjustable and the reclining seat has three positions that can be used for post dinner naps. Suitable from six months the Contempo also has a five-point safety harness and a removable tray insert that can be popped in the dishwasher between meals.

This highchair stands out because you can fold it quickly and compactly using just one hand, plus it’s easily popped it in the car boot to take to grandparents’ or friends’ houses. The Contempo is easy to clean and well padded but we feel it's not sturdy enough for older toddlers. It lacks the longevity of some other models as it would be outgrown by three years old.  However the compact fold is a winner for small flats and houses though, as it can be stored away virtually flat. A practical model that's good value for money.

With a three-position recline and six height settings, this is a versatile, compact highchair. The pull-out tray insert is dishwasher safe, and the removable seat cover is machine washable, so it’s easy to clean. Four locking wheels make it stable during use, and it’s easy to move around once folded away.

Tested by Tami Anderson, 33, mum to Edith, six months. She says:

This was assembled in minutes without needing instructions. The wheels make moving it simple, and it folds well. The fact that it reclines makes getting Edith in and out easy. I love the adjustable height. It reaches the table but she can also sit low alongside us for those rare, lazy tea-on-the-sofa days! The lip on the removable tray keeps mess to a minimum.

Tested by Sarah Smith, 36, mum to Ralph, 12 months. She says:

I thought this was bulky. It occupies lots of space in the dining area. The height-adjustable legs mean you can position it low for a toddler table and high for the dinner table. It’s got a comfy, spacious seat, but the cushion insert stains easily and the harness didn’t stay white for long. I dread to think of the damage Ralph would do to this with blueberries!

Tested by Baccara Gallacher, 22, mum to Indie, 21 months. She says:

I’d expect more for the price. The surface is wipe-clean but the seat cover was ruined after one meal, despite machine-washing. Scrubbing off welded-on Weetabix left an indentation mark. I’m not sure
it’ll survive Indie’s tendency to javelin a fork at speed towards dropped food! It’s a good all-rounder, though, with a compact foldaway design.
