Combining modern quality and functionality, the Nuna BRYN highchair is designed to integrate perfectly into daily life when baby starts that exciting weaning journey and beyond. The sleek tweed and wood aesthetic appeals to parents, while the function of this high chair has been well thought out with baby and parent in mind, featuring removable and washable traytable and seat pad, height adjustable footrest and magnetic buckle harness.

Not just for weaning your baby, the BRYN can be used up until your child is around six years old, and the appealing design reflects this as it becomes a centerpiece in your kitchen rather than something you want to hide away.

Testing the Nuna BRYN highchair

From first impressions I was pleased that it was a small box, well packaged - which I've come to expect from a brand like Nuna and they certainly didn't disappoint. Even before I unpacked the highchair I was bracing myself for a complicated setup as I’d recently tested another highchair which needed a lot of assembly. I was honestly quite relieved when I removed this from the box and found it in only a few pieces, and no little screws or attachments at all.

The instructions take a little figuring out, they’ve tried to be as clear as possible with the diagrams but it is hard to show something in just an image sometimes! However I will also add that the parts themselves go together pretty easily – with a bit of thought you can work out which leg needs to go where, and use the instructions to help guide you.

You have four legs, the highchair seat itself (with removable padded seat cushion and harness), a footrest, front bar and the tray table. No screws, bolts or tools are required at all! Simply pop each of the legs in to the seat, there’s a clear click when they’re in place properly.

Then you can attach the footrest – this was probably the trickier bit to figure out but it didn’t take long for me to work out what I needed to do to attach it. Then you can add on the front bar and clip on the tray table and you’re done! Set up took mere minutes, and that’s not an exaggeration at all.

So, very quickly I got to enjoy the final product. Design-wise this highchair is sleek, modern and smart. I love the light maple finish to the legs, the grey tweed seat and the slightly warmer white tone to the plastic areas. It makes the material seem higher quality just from looking at it, and it feels like good quality material too. The tweed is a great choice of fabric for the seat as well, as the slight pattern to it makes it harder to spot stains and means I don’t feel like I need to wash it as often! The Nuna BRYN is also available in a darker Walnut colourway, but I prefered the look of maple as it tied in with my kitchen better.

You can adjust the height of the footrest very easily, by squeezing the release button underneath it and moving it up or down. There’s also a release button on the underside of the tray table so this can be removed for cleaning or if you wanted to put the highchair up against the table rather than using the tray.

The harness itself has a self-guiding magnetic buckle, making it a lot easier to secure a wriggling little one in their seat. Thank goodness for magnetic buckles!

When baby gets a bit older you can remove the harness, and you can also remove the padded seat, not just for cleaning, but if you wanted to use it without the cushion. I love that the seat pad is also machine washable, easy cleaning is a brilliant feature for messy mealtimes and something the best baby weaning products should always have in mind.

The tray and highchair wipes down very easily, as there is a bit of texture to the material I was concerned that mess would grip to it but it just needs a quick spray and wipe. It is a generous sized tray so it’s harder for things to go overboard, and I also like that we can remove the tray so baby can just sit at the table with us.

Both the fact that you can adjust the footrest height and remove the seat insert, tray and front bar mean that this highchair also has longevity. The Nuna website states it can be used until about 6 years old. It is rather slim in build though, so I think this would depend on the child. You also can't adjust the height of the seat itself so it would depend how well it fit up against your table or kitchen island as well.

As a piece of furniture it is designed to tie in with the home, and it doesn’t look out of place in our kitchen at all, in fact I think it’s a lot nicer than our table and chairs and makes me want to get a set that matches the highchair! However, if I could have the option to fold it away when needed that would be an improvement. It does take up a fair bit of floor space. The legs are easy enough to remove though, so I have resorted to that on occasion. It also travelled with us to the grandparents for new year, so while not designed to be a portable highchair, thanks to it being so easy to assemble we were able to take it with us.

Considering that you get the seat pad and tray table included and it can then be used up until six years old, I would say this product is priced accordingly to other similar highchairs on the market. It is aesthetically a lovely piece of furniture, and while not specified to be safe for adults, since it can take up to 100kg it is strong enough that a slim adult could perch on it if needed. It is a sleek and modern highchair with quality at the forefront. I appreciate it is more expensive than other highchairs, but if it's in your budget and you want something well made that will last you multiple children and looks good in your home as well, then I think the Nuna BRYN is a great option.
