Testing the sleepdove® Big U Maternity Pillow
As I progress in my pregnancy, a comfortable pregnancy pillow has been not a want, but a need. It’s been next to impossible for me to sleep comfortably to a number of reasons, so getting a good pregnancy pillow was high on my list. I’m currently 22 weeks, and I’ve been using this pillow since I’ve been 19 weeks pregnant – I don’t know how I got this far without it!
The Sleepdove pregnancy pillow is the best if you’re looking for a great option on a budget, as it is an absolute bargain at just £19.99, and I can’t help but say it’s worth the price! For such a low price, I’m happy with what I’ve picked up, though there are some things to note. Given the size of this 12ft u-shaped pillow, it’s a bit heavy to take on and off the bed, but having said that, the size is what makes it half as good as it is. Once I’d got the cover on the 12ft pillow – which was actually a huge struggle in itself – I dropped onto the pillow and instantly felt like I was sleeping on a cloud.
There aren’t many positions I can use the pillow in, but it works in the prime position I’d like to use it in, which is great for me. I can adjust myself to sleep or relax whichever way I choose and pretty easily, regardless of which side I’d like to sleep on. Not a single part of me has any safety concerns with it and I’m really happy with how it’s been working for me in the second trimester. My body has been growing, and it’s remained compatible with my body size – in fact my husband even gave it a go after trying to kick it out of bed... he might not like it in bed with him, but if he was the one sleeping on it, he’s a big fan too!
For the value, the pillow is great, but I did have some struggles with it. I probably could have gone with the 9ft version, the 12ft might be a tad too big for me, but also due to the size it was quite hard to get it into the cover. It took both myself and my husband to get this comfortably in the pillow, but at the last hurdle the zip unfortunately popped – but luckily for me, it’s still usable and hasn’t made it any less comfortable.
It’s incredibly soft and supports both my back and my belly in all kinds of positions. For the first time in weeks I was able to sleep through the night which I was so grateful for! The pillow is supposed to be machine washable, but for me I think the size of it – and the struggle I had with putting it in the case – would make cleaning it a bit difficult for me.
The pillow is also made to help people with pains and arthritis while sleeping, so it can be something that will last the test of time if needed.
Final Verdict
Overall, I love the pillow. But it wasn’t until I managed to get the cover on that I realised I was a fan, before that I really struggled. What would make this product better is an easier way to put the cover on which would make it less prone to breaking. I could order a replacement cover, but after how tough it was to get it on, I would rather not give it another go!
