Testing the Ickle Bubba Eden Deluxe Nursery Chair and Stool

I am 29-year-old mother of two under two. My oldest is 18 months of age and my youngest is now 1-month-old. When not on maternity leave (which is how I've spent a lot of my time in the last 2 years!) I am a Student Wellbeing Officer at a secondary school.

I was very keen to test the Ickle Bubba Eden Deluxe Nursery Chair and Stool, especially since I’ve been wanting a nursing chair for a while but hadn’t gotten around to purchasing one, even with two young children under 2! I was eager to find a piece that would serve both as a comfortable spot for nursing my newborn and a cosy chair for rocking and cuddling my toddler. I received the chair in Pearl Grey, which, despite not being part of the colour scheme that my nursery is decorated in, blends effortlessly due to its modern, neutral Scandinavian design.

Assembly was straightforward, with clear instructions consisting mostly of simple pictures, which made the process easy to follow. The seat comes pre-assembled, while the legs need to be attached together and bolted to the base. It comes with an Allen key to complete the assembly, but it also requires you to own a screwdriver or drill. I used a drill to speed up the process, which took under 20 minutes. Without a drill and using only a screwdriver, assembly would likely take longer and be a little more difficult. Since it’s only semi-flat-pack, the chair is large and not easy to store when not in use (such as in a loft).

The chair comes in three colour options: Charcoal Grey, Pearl Grey (the colour I tested), and Ochre, which looks to be a mustard yellow shade. I think it would be ideal if there were a few more colour options to choose from; personally I would have loved it in a nice cream/beige colour.

The woven fabric is durable and easy to clean, which is a huge plus for parents like me, dealing with the inevitable baby sick. The legs are crafted from pine wood, adding to the chair's stylish Scandi vibe.

I found that the Eden Deluxe is thoughtfully designed for comfort. It features a high back, which is ideal for long periods of sitting while cuddling your baby to sleep or nursing. The chair also includes a lumbar support cushion and a stool to elevate your feet, which I found particularly helpful in enhancing comfort during extended sitting sessions.

The chair’s base is sturdy on both carpeted and hard floors, but one thing I have noticed, is that in my carpeted room, it takes quite a bit of effort to get the rocking motion started and to maintain it. I’ve therefore found it difficult to keep the chair rocking for long periods with a toddler on my lap. While the Eden Deluxe is very comfortable, the rocking function could definitely be improved for easier use.

The chair’s dimensions are H 93cm x W 74cm x D 93cm and it supports up to 130kg, making it easily strong enough to support both myself and my toddler. The wide seat makes this chair perfect for cuddling my toddler to sleep comfortably. The padded arms add to the comfort, providing a soft resting spot for my toddler when he’s sitting beside me. The fact that the arms are also low is ideal for propping up my elbows when nursing.

The footstool, which measures H 40cm x W 56cm x D 37cm, is compact and can be pushed up against the chair when not in use—ideal for those of us with limited space. The footstool cushion is detachable for easy cleaning, another thoughtful feature for busy parents.

When comparing the Eden Deluxe to other similar nursing chairs that I’ve seen online, I feel it stands out for its stylish design. However, some competing models offer additional features, such as swivel bases, arms with pockets for easy storage access and smoother rocking/reclining mechanisms.

The Eden Deluxe is priced at £399.00, which seems to fall into the mid-to-high price range for nursing chairs. But while it may be pricier than some options, I personally think that the solid balance between comfort and style makes it a competitive choice.

Final verdict

Overall, I’m really impressed with the Eden Deluxe Nursery Chair and Stool and would rate it a solid 4/5. It provides exceptional comfort, looks great in the room and is perfect for nursing my newborn.

The main area for improvement would be the rocking mechanism, which could benefit from a bit of refinement to make it easier to maintain a smooth rocking motion. That said, I would recommend this chair to anyone with a mid- to high-end budget who is looking for a comfortable, stylish nursery chair with a neutral Scandinavian design that fits seamlessly into any room. Once you’re done with it as a nursery chair, it could even work beautifully as an armchair in your living room!
