Testing the Silver Cross Seville Furniture Set

As first-time parents having a complete set to start us off was really important. We know how much baby's come with and we really needed practical space for everything we needed, as well as something that looked nice.

Another thing that was important to us was how long it would last. It's no secret how expensive everything can be, so we were really keen when we saw the Seville furniture set was described as being long-lasting!

Build

Overall the instructions given were clear and they included small steps and simple diagrams which made life a lot easier when constructing the build. We liked that everything arrived well packaged and labeled clearly too, which made it less overwhelming than some furniture can be! This made the whole process much more time efficient as you didn’t have to open the boxes and work out which pieces were next.

It took around an hour to build the wardrobe and drawers, which certainly exceeded any expectations I had as a novice when it comes to building furniture this big. As a first time Dad, I felt quite nervous to build our child’s nursery but this set made the overall experience really easy.

The build in general was straightforward and time-efficient, however we did find one small discrepancy when building the draws. Once the frame was built and you began to construct the draws themselves, the pieces were identical and not numbered. This meant I put the drawer runners on backward. In this instance, the instructions could have been more clear. I expect that someone with more build experience may have been able to notice the issue but for a novice, this took me some time to rectify.

Usability

I was pleasantly surprised with the storage room of the wardrobe. You normally find sleek designs to lack storage space, but it has a good depth and rail and shelving inside. I find the shelf to be a key feature in this design. Other brands often have shelves or drawers at the bottom of the wardrobe, but the eye-level shelf and second shelf in the middle of the wardrobe means even in the early days after birth my partner can grab things off the shelf without reaching up or crouching down.

The double clothes rail is a huge advantage too. It enables you to clearly see the clothes you have for the baby and also easier to organise the clothes into size order.

The surface area of the changing table is large enough to change a baby without having to worry about them wriggling too close to the edge. I liked that down the line this top part can be removed too so it looks like an ordinary chest of drawers!

I think that three drawers is ample for this unit as they are deep and wide enough for baby essentials and clothing. The top drawer fits all the nappies and wipes the you need whilst using changing unit. The other drawers have enough depth that you can stack your baby's bedding, towels and clothes without having to be very savvy to save space.

Performance

I was really impressed with how luxurious the furniture felt, whilst still having a really solid build providing both style and substance! There is no rocking of the wardrobe and the doors are nice and heavy. My only slight disappointment was the hinges not being soft close. This poses a slight safety risk for little toddler fingers getting stuck in the closing doors down the line, but it's only a minor issue we can fix with safety catches.

The cot is on the larger side, so in terms of room, there is plenty, unlike the mini cots you can get. I am certain that my aby will be able to use this cot up until at least four years old with no issues. It was really easy to adjust the height of the cot too, with just four screws being moved!

The mix of muted neutral tones and Scandinavian wood really gives the room that quiet luxury feel. It feels so luxurious, yet really relaxed.

Final verdict

I've never really been a fan of baby furniture as it always looked really basic, but I honestly loved this set from Silver Cross. I personally love spending time in the room because it's so beautiful. This set as a whole has really made our nursery a very safe and soothing place which is exactly what we wanted.

It's amazing value for money, as wardrobes and beds alone can be so expensive! But the quality and style of this set, and the fact the cot is convertible too means we can have it for years. I'd really recommend this set!

No, the set can be bought with all three products, or a fourth product which includes a nursing chair, or they can all be purchased individually.
