There's no denying that one of the hardest parts of the parenting journey is potty training, and it leaves so many questions that there isn't a straightforward answer for! What I absolutely love as a second time parent is this clever My Carry Potty, as it's one of the best travel potties out there but you can use it at home too!

A lightweight design that you can take on the go or have in any room of the house the My Carry Potty comes in an array of child-friendly designs, is leak-proof and provides familiarity to children who are potty training.

The My Carry Potty has also won a gold 2024 Mother&Baby Award, making it a firm favourite with other parents, not just myself!

Mother&Baby Awards

Here is what our army of mum and dad testers, and their little ones, thought of the My Carry Potty when testing for the Mother&Baby Awards:

“Lightweight and portable, this potty is perfect for keeping at home, in the car, taking on holiday or wherever or whenever you need it. Practical and easy to use, this handy potty features an integrated handle and a twist button for easy opening, even when you're in a rush! The deep bowl has a large splash guard and once the lid is sealed, it's also leak-proof and odour-proof for complete peace of mind. My Carry Potty has slip resistant rubber feet to keep it still on any surface and features a moulded seat so your little one feels comfortable. To encourage your toddler to carry on potty training when they're out and about, My Carry Potty features a fun dinosaur/animal design your little one will love.”

Testing the My Carry Potty

As a mum of one successfully potty trained child, and currently potty training my second, I found the best thing for my sons journey was consistency! We used the same potty at home and when we were out and about, but it was just a standard potty and was a huge inconvenience to take around. I did a bit more research into practical and portable potties this time, which is when I discovered the My Carry Potty, and I wanted to see if it would be easier to use when potty training my daughter.

It's designed to be leakproof which I found to be true, and contains everything after use, so if you can't get to a toilet to dispose of it quickly, you don't have to worry about carrying it flat or messing around with a nappy bag and wipes.

The potty also has a convenient handle which also tucks away nearly when not in use, and has feet to help it stand upright, which helps when you need to store it out of the way.

Usability

While I did find the locking mechanism a little tricky to get the potty open at times, this does just reassure that it doesn't going to open itself if you're carrying it after it's been used. Otherwise, it's pretty straight forward in terms of usage!

Performance

The My Carry Potty did everything I wanted it to, and is a familiar potty for my daughter to use, and she is happy to use it.

We were able to take it out and about, and my daughter loved the funky penguin design. It also didn't feel strange carrying the potty about either, and almost looks like a little suitcase.

When my daughter did want to use it, we tried to encourage using it in a toilet if we were near one, (we always offered both, but most of the time her preference was the My Carry Potty), or we'd try and find some privacy for her to use it if a toilet wasn't accessible. We did this to help her understand her privacy, and I do think with a portable potty it can be easy to just use it in the open, which is something we really wanted to avoid.

My only issue is I do wish that the back of the seat could be positioned upright rather than having to be laid completely flat, as a few times my daughter has tilted herself backward because she doesn't have the spacial awareness to remember the back is open when she's concentrating on using the potty. This is only an extremely minor issue though!

Final Verdict

Overall I am impressed with the My Carry Potty. I think it takes away a lot of the stress of finding a toilet for your little one when out and about, but I also think it's important to be mindful about privacy when your little one is using it.

We bought the full set to help with the potty training journey, but found we didn't really use the toilet seat a lot, as it did slow down our daughter using the toilet when she wanted to use it.

I would recommend the My Carry Potty to other parents!

More about the My Carry Potty

Can I use the My Carry Potty instead of an open potty?

You can use an open-top potty if you prefer, however, the My Carry Potty can be left sat open if needed in a room, and also taken on the go.
