Chicco MiiniMo

At a glance:

Our bronze award winner, the Chicco Miinimo is an affordable, lightweight stroller. Compact enough to fit into an aeroplane cabin and even when folded it is free standing, which is great when it comes to storage. That said, it doesn’t have some of the benefits as other strollers in the category, such as a window in the hood and adjustable handlebars.

What they say:

Chicco Miinimo closes with one hand and is extremely compact when folded. Innovative in both the closure system and design features in compelling new forms, a high ease of use and super comfortable padding to meet the needs of parents and children. Miinimo is perfect all journeys with your baby in total simplicity. And when Minimo is not needed ... it is so small you can put it anywhere!

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Yes, I would! I would recommend this product to someone who travels a lot and who needs a lightweight compact pushchair for holidays. I don't think it would be great as your only pushchair as the seat is not very big and I don't think a child would like being in there for long periods of time. Also, the shopping basket is not very big which isn’t ideal.

How has this product made your life easier?

The MiiniMo folds down really compact and is easy to put up and down. This makes life so much easier, as sometimes you are limited for space, especially when travelling. It's great that it can fit in an aircraft hand luggage hold, but also makes life easier if you use trains or buses, as it's great to be able to fold it up and get it out of the way if you need to.

Would you choose this product to win?

No, I would not choose this to win a Mother & Baby award, as personally, I would not choose it myself. We do not travel very often and I don't think it is worth using unless you fly regularly. I prefer something with a bigger comfier seat and more storage for day to day. My daughter is only 11-months-old and didn't have a lot of space. I don't feel that a child older then about 18-months-old would be very comfortable in it.

What changes would you make to this product?

If I could change one thing I would make the hood and shopping baskets bigger. I feel for a pushchair that is designed for travel, the hood is just too small and wouldn't protect your baby from the sun. The basket is also a bit small to get everything in, especially on holiday when you might need swimming stuff as well as all the other essentials.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this to another mum as it looks stylish, it is very lightweight and it is easy to fold up, which is always handy for mums who are juggling lots of things. The fact that it folds up small is also very handy, as it means you can fit other things in the boot of the car not just the pushchair. That said, I do feel it is a bit pricey.

How has this product made your life easier?

This stroller is very lightweight and easy to fold down which makes things a lot easier. It also folds down quite small which is really useful – my friend has a mini and it even fit in her car boot. It has various reclining positions which is great for me, as my son still naps in the pushchair and the padding is soft which you sometimes don't get in cheaper strollers.

Would you choose this product to win?

This stroller is very lightweight and easy to pack away, it has various reclining positions which I find very useful as my toddler still naps in his pushchair. Having said that, it does feel flimsy when pushing it along, but I suppose that comes with it being so lightweight as my son still seems comfortable.

What changes would you make to this product?

If I could change one thing about this pushchair it would be the basket, as I feel it is a bit on the small side.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

This is a nice looking, well-designed compact stroller, it folds easily and has a handle so that you can easily carry it. That said, I did have a few issues with this stroller – it does look a little plasticky, the hood is very minimal so you would need to buy an extender and the handle bar doesn't adjust. That said, I don't think you will find a compact that does everything a travel system does, and the important things you need for a lightweight holiday stroller are met with this.

How has this product made your life easier?

This is an excellent, lightweight, compact stroller. If you are looking for something that takes up minimal space, particularly if you want something that can fit in the cabin of an aeroplane, this would be a good stroller for you. Another benefit is that when it is folded, the stroller is free standing.

Would you choose this product to win?

There are a number of compact strollers on the market, the market leader is significantly more expensive than this stroller, and although I do think it is of a higher quality and is nicer and easier to push one handed! I think for the money this stroller beats that. If you don't want to spend £300+ this is a great option. I think this stroller also beats others in that it lies completely flat and sits very upright which others do not.

What changes would you make to this product?

The most important thing to do would be to extend the hood so that it provides better sun coverage, as these strollers are often chosen particularly as holiday strollers. I would also add simple touches, such as a window in the hood to see baby and adjustable handle bars.

Tested by mum Catherine Duffy for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Definitely – especially if you are going away on an aeroplane. It folds down really small and has a carrier for when it isn't being used. My toddler is at the stage where she wants to walk rather than sit in a pushchair so I found this product was ideal. Its light and compact enough to just pack up and throw over your shoulder and vice versa. Although it is compact, my toddler enjoyed sitting in the pushchair and even had a sleep. The lay down position is perfect and the function to do this is simple. Overall, this is a fab product and I would definitely recommend it to a fellow mum.

How has this product made your life easier?

This product is so lightweight and compact compared to other products on the market. It fits in to a small car boot easily, with plenty of space left for other things. It's easy to erect and fold away and to carry over your shoulder if not is use. It’s a compact stroller that has everything you need – a sun canopy, reclining seat and a handy basket to carry your baby's changing bag.

Would you choose this product to win?

Yes, it's by far the lightest and most compact pushchair I've seen. The winning aspect for me is how small and light it is. It's so easy to carry around when not in use and fits into the smallest of car boot spaces. I really like that the wheels spin 360 degrees, which makes the product really easy to steer. The only things that let this product down is the sun canopy isn't big enough, especially in the lay down position and that the basket underneath isn't as accessible as I first imagined it was.

What changes would you make to this product?

I would make the sun canopy bigger or longer, so more or all of your baby's body is protected from the sun and adverse weather – this would be my main priority above all else. I would also make the basket a lot more accessible.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this pushchair to other parents if they were planning on going abroad or packing up the car for a holiday in this country, as it folds so small it wouldn't impact on the space taken up. It would also be fantastic in a smaller house as there is no worry of tripping over this in the hallway – it folds up small enough for us to fit it in the cupboard under the stairs.

How has this product made your life easier?

This product makes my life as a parent much easier for day to day errands such as being able to fit both the pushchair and a full boot of groceries in the car. It also allows me to actually take the pushchair into my parents’ house when visiting, as the entrance is through a very tight gate, which I usually can’t get my pushchair through, but this folds so small and so simply that I can easily take it inside too.

Would you choose this product to win?

This is a difficult question to answer as it’s perfect if you needed something lightweight or compact, or for an older toddler that walks majority of the time. It also looks good in use and is made of great quality, but I would be looking for something sturdier and wider for our little one.

What changes would you make to this product?

If I could change one thing about the MiiniMo it would be the wheels; on a smooth surface it's great to push, lightweight and comfy for our little one. However, we did a nursery test run which included going across quite a bumpy lane and the wheels didn't seem to manage as well as other pushchairs with a good suspension and larger wheels. My little one found it highly amusing, but I doubt a newborn would have been as impressed!

Tested by mum Aimee Evans for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this product to a fellow mum because it's good value for money as it is suitable from birth, so you only have to buy one pushchair instead of a travel system followed by a stroller later on. The only downside is that the shopping basket is not very big, but for a compact stroller it doesn't have to be.

How has this product made your life easier?

This product makes life a lot easier as the pushchair is lightweight and compact. It fits in any boot space and is easy to steer. It's also easy to fold up and down so you can do it really quickly when you want to get out of the door

Would you choose this product to win?

I would choose this pushchair to win a Mother & Baby award as it is lightweight and really compact, so would fit in any sized boot. I would be able to collapse the pushchair with one hand, which is great if you have got your hands full with a baby or an active toddler. It is also really easy to steer and good value for money.

What changes would you make to this product?

If I could change one thing about the product I would make the hood bigger, so that it protects baby from the sun more. It is also not currently UV protected, which is fine in the winter, but not if there's a really hot summer. I would also make the shopping basket slightly bigger. Other than that, it is a really good pushchair.
