An Allen key is included, but I used an electric Allen key to make the process faster. The corners of the product are all nicely rounded as an extra safety measure. Once assembled, the step stool – which is made from solid wood and MDF - was sturdy and felt very safe.

As a journalist and mum of two boys – aged three and five – I have tested many baby/toddler products and I was really impressed by the JOLIE VALLÉE TOYS & HOME Kids Step Stool. My boys are always on the go and very physical, so the stool was really useful for both boys to get fully involved in activities around the kitchen table tops – such as cleaning, cooking and crafts.

I tested all elements of the product over the period of a month and it excelled in all areas. As well as being used as a stool, it also folds down to become a table where two children can easily sit for a crafts session, or to eat their tea. You can use the chalkboard attached to the front of the stool for play or studying. Despite being made from solid wood and MDF, it’s easy to transport around from room to room if needed.

This product offers value for money – at £89 - because it is multi-functioning. When the tower folds down into a table, you can use it to feed two children or set them up to do more activities seated. As it’s foldable, it can be easily stored away – suiting even a small living area.

Setting up was easy – but I did use a power tool to put the parts together. It definitely needed two people to assemble it and hold the parts together, while the other person secured the screws. The stand comes with safety latches to make sure it is completely secure – whether used as a stool or a table.

The product has a neutral wood look, so it will blend in with any feature – my toddler also enjoyed the fun lion design on the side. The stand was very easy to clean – even when my toddler put paint down the side!

I think the main reason to buy this product is that it does so many things – it’s a multi-tasker! Your baby can use the stand with the handrail and then it works for a toddler too – and you can remove the handrail. The step is so strong, even an adult can use it as a ladder stool.

To make the stool look more aesthetic when you’re not using it practically, you can also use it as a shelf to display potted plants or ornaments. The product surpassed all my expectations – we use it every day now! It’s part of our daily routine. It’s really given my sons an extra element to joining in kitchen activities.

Final verdict

This is a quality item that will give you years of use – excellent value for money. It delivers on all its key functions. The only extra it could have would be an extra stool for table use. It only comes with one side as a bench that your child can sit at. I recommend this to all mums who want their children involved in their domestic routine.

The stool can occupy little people for hours! There are so many functions to this product and it’s easy to store in your house. The highlight was definitely using the step stool in its tower form and watching my child have hours of fun doing activities on my level at the kitchen island. My two boys used the product – aged 3 and 5 – and they both really enjoyed it as both a step stool and a table.
