Best prams and pushchairs of 2025: From newborn and beyond with comfort, safety, and style in mind

Best prams and pushchairs of 2025

Updated on

When it comes to choosing the best pram or pushchair, you'd think it would be relatively straightforward, but even as a mum of two with another on the way, I know that navigating the world of prams and pushchairs can feel overwhelming.

There is so much to consider, so the first thing you need to decide is what kind of pushchair you're looking for to suit your needs. If you're looking for a pushchair to attach a car seat or carrycot onto, you'll need a travel system, which is an investment but it will last you years as they are designed to grow with your child. There are also double buggies if you're expecting twins, or are ones that can convert into a double if you're expecting and already have a baby or toddler. Or are you looking for a travel stroller that's lightweight and compact for going away or ease of use around cities?

With all that to consider, it's important to know what the different pram's and pushchairs offer to know if they're the right choice for you.

How to choose the right pram or pushchair for you

Shopping for my third pushchair hasn't been easy despite already doing it before. The options available change so quickly with prams and pushchairs constantly being updated with convenient features and additional safety consideration to suit parents and little ones needs.

However, there are some basics that can help you in your choice of what type of pushchair you're looking for.

Age suitability

First, think about your baby’s age. Prams and pushchairs are designed for different stages of growth. If you’re shopping for a newborn, you’ll need a pram that either reclines fully, or has a bassinet-style seat to keep them comfy and safe. You might also want to double check if the pram has a parent-facing feature. For babies over six months, you’ll want something that has an adjustable seat so they can sit up comfortably. If you're looking at a running buggy, remember that while they work as regular pushchairs for newborns, you won’t be able to run with them until your little one is at least six months old.

Type of use

Next, consider how you’ll use your pram. If you live in the city and do lots of short trips, a lightweight pushchair with smaller wheels will be perfect for navigating through busy streets and tight spaces. If you’re planning to travel or take day trips, look for a compact and easy-to-fold option that won’t take up too much room in the car. On the other hand, if you love the outdoors and plan on taking your baby for walks through the park or the countryside, an all-terrain pram with bigger wheels will handle those bumpy paths with ease. For daily use, something a bit more sturdy and durable will make all your outings a lot easier.

Weight

Think about how often you’ll need to lift the pram in and out of your car or take it on public transport. If you’re going to be carrying it up stairs or storing it in the car frequently, a lightweight pram will save you a lot of effort. But if you’ll mostly be using it at home or in places where you don’t need to move it often, you can focus more on the features and sturdiness of the pram rather than weight.

Budget

Prams and pushchairs come in a range of prices. If you’re on a budget, you can find affordable pram options between £50 and £200, which cover the basics and work perfectly for shorter trips. If you’re willing to spend a little more, in the £200 to £600 range, you’ll get extra features like adjustable seats, better suspension for a smoother ride, and longer-lasting fabrics. If you’re after something more luxurious, high-end prams (costing £600 and up) often offer top-quality materials, a stylish design, and features that will last for many years.

How we chose and tested the best prams and pushchairs

Our pram and pushchair recommendations are based on a combination of real-world testing from our burgeoning army of mum testers and our experienced editorial team and product specialists. Where we can, we also consult experts who specialise in that field, to ensure you get the right advice along with the right product.

The best prams and pushchairs are chosen based on real parent reviews, having tested over a hundred different styles from travel systems, and all-terrain to compact strollers. Our testing process takes place over a four to six-week period, where we ask parents to review the safety, comfort, durability, ease of use and value for money, as well as taking photos of the prams in action so you can see real life images of the products.

With all that in mind, we then work through each review to identify the top 20 prams and pushchairs chosen by parents, so we can show you the best.

The Nuna TRIV Next took home gold in the Mother&Baby Awards 2025 for Best Pushchair, and parents who’ve tried it aren’t surprised. It’s compact, easy to handle, and fits right into a busy lifestyle – whether that means city walks, quick car trips, or just trying to get out the door without a meltdown (yours or the baby’s).

One of the biggest wins? It’s lightweight without feeling flimsy. It folds with one hand, stands up on its own, and doesn’t require a wrestling match to fit into a car boot. Molly, a mum tester, put it together alone at 40 weeks pregnant, which tells you everything about how simple the setup is. "The seat positions and collapsible carrycot were easy to switch between, and everything felt high-quality. I especially love the stylish black colour scheme with brown leatherette accents on the handle and front bar," she shared.

Maneuverability is another big plus. One parent tester was surprised at how well it handled tight corners and crowded spaces, and even mentioned that her little one, who usually fights naps “drifted off quickly and comfortably” in the TRIV Next. That’s the kind of magic parents dream about.

And then there’s the small stuff that makes a big difference: The ring adaptor that folds with the frame (because nobody needs more loose parts to keep track of), the reversible seat, and the collapsible carrycot that stores easily when it’s not in use. Molly found it perfect for her post-birth recovery, saying, "I own two pushchairs, but I always grab this one as my go-to because it’s so much lighter."

Nuna’s all-season seat keeps your little one cosy in winter and cool in summer, with a rain cover for all-weather protection. Plus, the Dream Drape adds privacy for peaceful naps, all at no extra cost!

The Nuna TRIV Next keeps what parents loved about the original Nuna Triv but adds smart upgrades. It’s lighter, 2.5 inches wider for better stability, and folds 10% smaller for easier storage. Larger wheels improve handling, though it’s not as rugged as the MIXX Next or DEMI Grow

It’s not perfect, some testers felt the suspension could be better, especially on bumpier terrain. But for day-to-day life, the TRIV Next makes things just a little bit easier. And when you’re a parent, that’s worth its weight in gold.Read our full Nuna TRIV Next review.

Toddler in Graco Myavo©MOTHER&BABY

The Graco Myavo Compact Stroller earned silver in the Mother&Baby Awards 2025 for Best Lightweight Buggy, impressing testers with its portability and ease of use. Perfect for families on the go, it features an automatic one-handed fold, making it easy to pack away, though some parents found it took a bit of practice to master.

At just £129.99, the Myavo offers great value compared to other premium lightweight, compact options like the Yoyo3 or Bugaboo Butterfly which are priced at twice the cost. It also comes with a three- or five-point harness system for added security and a detachable bumper bar for easy access.

Samantha Ball, our Features and Reviews Editor, shared her experience with the stroller, "She [her daughter] was happy to sit in it for long periods, which is rare, she usually tries to climb out! That alone speaks volumes about the comfort and design."

Samantha also praised the stroller’s lightweight frame, ideal handle height, and smooth performance in daily use. “From assembling the wheels to pushing it around, everything about this stroller has been a dream. We’ve taken it everywhere from the zoo to the beach to grassy fields, without any problems."

However, she did note that at times her daughter slid down slightly in the seat, though the harness kept her secure and comfortable.

One standout feature is the 360-degree swivel wheels, making it easy to steer on various terrains like gravel, grass, and pavement. The stroller’s lightweight frame makes it easy to carry, but some parents pointed out that without the brake engaged, a strong gust of wind could move the stroller.

The Thule Spring has been a hit with parents for its lightweight design and excellent manoeuvrability. Whether you’re navigating busy city streets, grassy parks, or even sandy beaches, this three-wheeled stroller delivers a smooth and effortless ride.

Our mum tester, Katie, loved how easy it was to handle. "The three wheels make mobility great, whether you're pushing the stroller across the grass at the park or navigating narrow aisles in a shop." With foam-filled wheels, the Thule Spring absorbs bumps for a smoother ride, ideal for keeping your little one comfortable while napping.

The reclining seat is easy to adjust, making it simple to find the perfect position for your child. Parents also praised the extendable canopy, which provides great sun protection and extra coverage when needed. Katie highlighted its convenience, “If you're caught unprepared in the rain, you can simply unzip and extend the canopy further.”

Other useful features include the mesh panel for quick child monitoring, an adjustable handlebar for better posture (especially for taller parents), and a foot lock system with a double-locking feature for extra safety on inclines.

The five-point harness ensures your child stays secure at all times. One of the most appreciated aspects of the Thule Spring is its one-hand fold mechanism, which allows for easy transportation. Its compact size fits neatly into car boots without taking up too much space. Katie shared her experience, “Its compact size is ideal – I can even fit it in the back of the car alongside my Golden Retriever with ease!”

When it came to downsides, Katie struggled to find any but mentioned one minor preference, "The only thing I would have liked is for the bumper bar to be included, as many strollers come with one.”

UPPAbaby Vista V2 pushchair©MOTHER&BABY

The UPPAbaby Vista V2 pushchair is a favourite amongst parents. The carrycot offers a classic pram look with modern durability and stability, ensuring comfort for the baby. Made from luxurious fabrics and leather, the pushchair is designed with both child and parent in mind, featuring comfortable, adjustable handles.

It is easy to clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent. The under-seat storage is spacious, and the carrycot doubles as an overnight sleep solution when used with a stand. “This was extremely useful when staying away from home as we did not have to worry about taking additional cots on our journey,” our mum tester Daniella said.

The carrycot includes a mattress, an extendable UPF 50+ canopy, breathable mesh for airflow, and both bug and rain shields. While the Vista V2 is wider and heavier than other pushchairs, it excels in outdoor use with large wheels and four-wheel suspension for smooth rides over various terrains.

The front wheel locks have a visual indicator for added convenience. The pushchair is compatible with various car seats through multiple adaptors and offers a range of accessories. It can be adapted for multiple children with configurations like the PiggyBack ride-along attachment.

Despite its higher price, the Vista V2's features and adaptability make it ideal for growing families with ample car space. Assembly is straightforward, and it folds to stand alone, making storage easy. “Compared to other pushchairs on the market, the Vista V2 is wider in scale, which is perfect for me; however, I do appreciate not everyone will have a car boot large enough to fit it in.” Daniella adds. The bundle includes a storage bag for accessories.

Silver Cross Tide ©MOTHER&BABY

The Silver Cross Tide bagged silver award in the Mother&Baby Awards 2024 for Best Pushchair, impressing parents with its versatility and high-quality design. This three-in-one travel system includes a stylish chassis, a carrycot for newborns, and a reversible, reclining pushchair seat, though some testers did find it to be on the pricier side. Whether you're navigating city streets or heading off-road, the Tide is designed to handle it all.

One parent tester shared their experience, “While testing the Tide, we have been out to supermarkets, shopping centres, and on dog walks, and the wheels didn’t get stuck at all. It’s easy to steer and manoeuvre over both curbs and fields. It’s narrow enough that getting through a busy town or supermarket aisles isn’t an issue.”

Our parent testers praised the Silver Cross Tide for its balance of function, size, and comfort. Thoughtful features stood out, including the extendable hood with a ventilation panel and the magnetic-style buckle, which one reviewer found "so much easier than other major pram brands I have used."

Another favourite feature? The zip pocket on the back of the seat, which offers easy access to essentials. One tester noted, "I liked that there’s a zip pocket on the back of the pushchair seat, I found it a lot easier than having to keep bending down to the basket, and it was large enough to fit my phone and keys."

As expected from Silver Cross, the Tide is made from premium materials, providing a smooth and well-padded ride for little ones. Plus, it folds down compactly without needing to remove the seat, making it a great space-saver for busy parents. If we had to find a downside? More colour options would be a welcome addition. But really, we’re nitpicking!

Our parent testers found the Didofy Stargazer simple to assemble, taking just 10 minutes to attach the wheels and set the seat direction. With a sleek unisex grey design, the stroller looks stylish while feeling sturdy, yet it folds and unfolds effortlessly with one hand. It also boasts easy manoeuvrability, a UPF 50 hood, and a spacious shopping basket, perfect for busy parents on the go.

The one-hand fold is particularly useful when holding a child, and testers appreciated that it can also be pushed with one hand if needed. Mum tester Anna shared her thoughts, "I felt the Didofy Stargazer was an excellent stroller, especially coming as part of an 11-piece bundle. I think it is very reasonably priced. The one-handed fold and easy manoeuvrability were excellent features, and the fact that it is made out of recycled bottles is a great addition for those who are more eco-conscious."

The UPF 50 hood, featuring a peek-a-boo window, extends for full coverage, while the five-point harness is easily adjustable for a secure fit. Parents loved the large shopping basket, which provides plenty of space for essentials. However, some testers noted that the included rain cover doesn’t fully protect the feet of taller children. While the Didofy Stargazer performs best on pavements and smooth grass, it can struggle with potholes and curbs. That said, little ones seemed comfortable in the seat, with one mum commenting,"She never fought us when we put her in, and she seemed to enjoy the higher-than-average seat."

The full 11-piece bundle offers great value, including a collapsible bassinet, an i-Size car seat with an ISOfix base (which is easy to install but lacks a swivel feature), and a stylish changing bag with ample pockets for extra storage.

Price: £395

The Out'n'About Nipper Sport v5 is a fantastic choice for active parents in the countryside, offering a blend of sturdiness and versatility for off-road adventures and smooth jogging sessions. Its three large 16” air-filled tyres and wheel suspension provide a smooth and comfortable ride for little ones, no matter the terrain.

Our mum tester Hatty was particularly impressed, “We were amazed at the smoothness of the ride for both us and our daughter—especially over off-road terrain.” Designed for convenience, the Nipper Sport v5 features easy-to-remove wheels and a compact fold, making storage and transport a breeze. While assembling the buggy took around 45 minutes, Hatty and her partner initially struggled with the front brake pad setup.

However, a quick call to Out'n'About’s support team resolved the issue efficiently."We found the images in the booklet slightly confusing," Hatty shared. "The front brake pad was constantly touching the wheel on our first setup, and the instructions weren’t overly clear.

Thankfully, Out'n'About’s support team quickly guided us on how to fix it." Once assembled, the Nipper Sport v5 performed brilliantly on various outings, including a family holiday. The secure five-point safety harness and effective front-wheel brake added to their peace of mind, while the extendable sunshade with a UV visor and peekaboo window was a welcome feature for sunny days.

Hatty explained why this buggy was the perfect fit for her family, "My husband and I are keen walkers, and I’m a jogger getting back into fitness post-pregnancy. We wanted a jogging and all-terrain buggy that would let us share our love of exercise and the outdoors with our daughter while keeping her comfortable and happy."

The spacious storage basket easily held their essentials without adding bulk, and the quick-fold design meant it fit neatly into their small car boot. While the fixed front wheel was a huge plus for jogging stability, it did make everyday indoor manoeuvring a little
tricky.

Best pushchair with lie-flat position

Best pushchair with lie-flat position

Expert rating:
4.5

The Joie Litetrax Pro, winner of the Bronze award for Best Pushchair at the Mother&Baby Awards 2024, is designed to offer comfort and convenience from birth to four years old. With a fully reclining seat, it allows newborns to travel in a lie-flat position and can easily be converted into a travel system when paired with Joie’s 0+ car seats.

Our parent tester, Jim, praised the stroller’s all-wheel suspension, highlighting how well it cushioned the ride for his child, “Wilfred has slept comfortably in the Litetrax Pro many times, thanks possibly to the quality of material, the depth of padding and the fact you can fully recline the basket so it's in a lie-flat position.”

Assembly was another standout feature, with Jim noting how quick and easy it was to set up, "Putting the Litetrax Pro together out of the box was easy. My wife Daisy usually sets herself the challenge of putting things together without reading the instructions first (not to be recommended, it's just how she is!) and she managed to get the Litetrax up and running in no time straight after it was delivered."

Additional features include an adjustable leg rest, a large hood with a ventilated panel, and a spacious rain cover that, according to Jim, "covers the whole pushchair perfectly."

The swivel wheels provide easy steering, with the option to lock them for better control over bumpy surfaces. However, our testers noted that it didn’t perform as well on rough terrain. The one-hand fold function was a particular highlight, making it convenient for parents on the go and simple to store.

The storage basket was useful for essentials, though Jim pointed out a minor drawback, "There is decent storage available under the basket, for shopping perhaps (or for a nappy changing kit, etc.), although we cannot get our (rather large) nappy changing bag into it, which is slightly frustrating, though not a massive hassle."

When it comes to lightweight pushchairs, the Inglesina Quid² is a game changer, especially for travelling families. Weighing just 5.9kg, it's effortless to carry, easy to assemble, and perfect for air travel. For parents seeking a practical yet stylish option, the Quid² offers a luxurious feel at a mid-range price, making it a great alternative to celebrity-favourite strollers like the Bugaboo Butterfly and Stokke YOYO³.

Our mum tester was impressed with the hassle-free assembly, saying, "We were both pleasantly surprised that the only ‘building’ required was attaching the wheels, which even I could have managed!"With its one-handed fold, our parent testers found it incredibly convenient, allowing them to collapse the stroller while holding their baby. It also folds compactly, standing upright when stored. One tester shared, "We were able to load it into the overhead locker on the plane with ease, meaning we didn't have the extra stress of waiting for it to be unloaded from the cargo hold once we landed."

The smooth manoeuvrability makes it easy to push over different terrains, ensuring a comfortable ride for little ones. "Our little one found it extremely comfortable, and at nap time, she quickly fell asleep once we reclined the pushchair using the simple release mechanism."Parents also loved the extendable UPF 50+ canopy, offering great sun protection. However, one small drawback was the loud velcro on the ventilation window, which could potentially disturb a sleeping baby.Despite its higher price, parents felt the Quid² was well worth the investment, especially for those who travel frequently.

Bugaboo donkey with baby and toddler©MOTHER&BABY

The Bugaboo Donkey 5 is a versatile and adaptable pushchair, designed to grow with your family. Whether used as a single or double stroller, it offers multiple configurations, effortless manoeuvrability, and compatibility with various car seats. If you’re planning for another child, the Donkey 5 easily converts with just a few clicks to accommodate two little ones.

Our tester, dad-of-two Joe, found it to be exceptionally sturdy, saying, “My son is very strong and has damaged previous prams by kicking and fighting against the harness, so we needed a pram we could trust for strength and simplicity. When a tantrum starts, we need to get him in quickly and with confidence.”

He particularly appreciated its large wheels and high ground clearance, making it ideal for dog walks and off-road adventures. “We often take varied routes that a smaller pushchair just wouldn’t handle. The sturdy, single-style wheels twist and turn over bumps and uneven terrain, allowing us to take the scenic route without worry.”

Joe was also impressed by the build quality, "At no stage did I doubt the strength of any part – harness, wheels, frame, everything feels premium. It’s not clunky when dropping down a curb; instead, it feels cushioned and must be a pleasure to ride in. Considering its size, it is surprisingly easy to manoeuvre, even on the spot, thanks to the large wheels."

The BABYZEN YOYO² is a firm favorite among celebrities and city-dwelling parents alike, thanks to its ultra-lightweight design (just 6.2kg), compact fold, and airline cabin-friendly size. Whether you're navigating busy streets or jetting off on holiday, this stroller is built for convenience. It’s suitable from birth with the newborn pack or bassinet (both sold separately) or from six months as a stroller, offering versatility for growing families. Plus, with a variety of stylish colors and accessories, it delivers both practicality and aesthetic appeal.

Mother&Baby’s Online Editor, Maria Martin, tested the YOYO² with her almost 2-year-old daughter and found it easy to assemble, although she opted for a YouTube tutorial over the picture-only instructions. She noted that it "feels well-made" and praised its sturdy construction despite its lightweight frame. Maria highlighted its effortless maneuverability, thanks to BABYZEN’s patented Soft Drive technology, making it smooth to push even on uneven surfaces. However, she pointed out that the stroller is better suited for city use rather than rough terrains, as the wheels aren’t built for off-road adventures.

While the under-seat storage is compact, it’s ideal for small essentials like water bottles and snacks. Maria also loved the zipped back pocket, saying, "I found that I used the zipped back pocket a lot, and with a wide zip, it felt deeper than others I’ve used."

One drawback for taller parents is the non-adjustable handlebar, which may require some to bend slightly while pushing. However, the stroller's quick fold, shoulder strap for easy carrying, and travel-friendly design make it an excellent choice for parents on the go.

UPPAbaby Cruz V2 product©MOTHER&BABY

Shortlisted in the 2022 Mother&Baby Awards for Best Pushchair, the UPPAbaby Cruz V2 is known for its exceptionally smooth ride, thanks to large wheels, dual-action rear suspension, and front suspension. Despite its sturdy build, it folds down compactly for easy storage and transportation. While the carrycot or newborn insert is sold separately, making it an investment, its versatility and premium design make it a popular choice among parents.
Our parent testers loved its comfort and ease of use. The brake, handle, and suspension performed efficiently, and the one-step folding mechanism was praised for its simplicity. Hannah, one of our testers, appreciated the spacious basket, saying it was "big enough for a large change bag and several shopping bags", making outings more convenient.

Mum tester Debbie highlighted the extended sun canopy, noting that there’s “no need for an umbrella or sunglasses for the baby”. She also loved that it allows you to peek at your baby easily, has a stylish and high-end appearance, and even offers the option to add a ride-along board for an older sibling. She added, “The folding mechanism is one easy step, and the suspension absorbs some of the bumps when on rocky terrain!”

Many parents found the UPPAbaby Cruz V2 superior to other pushchairs. Kelly, one of our testers, shared, "I would choose this product above all others on the market as it offers lots of great features for a full-sized pushchair, such as a small compact size and large seat. I also like that it’s available in a variety of colours and that you can purchase a separate carrycot for newborns if needed."

Parents loved how easy this pram was to fold and its overall size. Assembly was straightforward, requiring only wheel attachment and cot expansion, and although there was some initial difficulty with unclear diagrams, the demo video on the Joolz website was very useful. “The demonstrator in the video managed to click components in place with ease, whereas I had to use some force. This may be because it was the first time setting up the cot.” Our mum tester said. The pushchair arrives in fully recyclable packaging, with a fun cut-out template for kids to play with.

This chic pushchair comes in a range of stylish colours. “I loved the choice of colours available and chose sage green.” Commented our mum tester. We also love that the pram is made using sustainable fabrics (recycled plastic bottles). Safety features include a sturdy chassis, reflective wheel strips, a supportive bumper bar, and an extendable handlebar for users of different heights. Its puncture-proof XL wheels and 5-point safety harness ensure smooth navigation and secure rides over numerous terrains. The large sun hood offers UPF 50 protection and water resistance, and the rain cover provides full coverage. The washable fabrics and good ventilation make it practical for any hot weather.

Performance-wise, the Geo3 handles various terrains well, though it felt bumpier on uneven pavements. Its lightweight design allows easy manoeuvring and one-handed use. “It feels lightweight to push and easy to manoeuvre one-handed but also heavy enough for my baby to feel safe and secure in the cot.” Our mum tester commented. Folding and unfolding is effortless after a bit of practice, and the compact size makes it easy to store and transport. The spacious cot and adjustable seat height were appreciated, as was the large under-seat basket for shopping.

Bugaboo Butterfly©MOTHER&BABY

The Bugaboo Butterfly is a celebrity favourite and a top choice for parents seeking a cabin-approved pram that combines style and convenience. Perfect for city living and frequent travellers, this ultra-compact stroller arrives pre-assembled, requiring only the seat in-lay to be attached. Suitable for children from six months, it can also accommodate newborns with the addition of adaptors and a compatible car seat (sold separately). With three chic colours available, it’s designed to maintain the sleek Bugaboo aesthetic on a stylish black chassis.

Our tester was impressed by the lightweight design, which makes it effortless to push and steer on various terrains. Despite its small wheels, the Butterfly performed well on bumpy surfaces like cobblestones and steps. The brake system, while requiring some force to engage, is centrally located and secure. The standout feature of this stroller is its simple fold mechanism: a quick push of two buttons collapses it into an ultra-compact form, making it easy to store and perfect for fitting in aeroplane overhead lockers. The spacious seat (with a 56cm high backrest) offers comfort and durability, making the stroller suitable for children up to four years old.

The seat reclines comfortably, though not fully flat, which is perfect for naps. Our tester found the extended sun canopy with a mesh ventilation panel provided ample shade and improved visibility. Despite its compact size, the under-seat basket is surprisingly large, holding up to 8kg of essentials and accessible from both the front and back. “The flexible rear opening made it easy to pop things in and out,” said our tester.

Overall, the Bugaboo Butterfly is a fantastic option for parents who need a compact, lightweight stroller that doesn’t compromise on comfort or features. If you are looking for more features from birth, you might want to consider the Bugaboo Bee 5 or Bugaboo Dragonfly, both offering extra features and suitable for newborns.

Our mum tester, Georgi, was very impressed with its overall quality, commenting, “Its promise of being perfect for ‘families on the go’ certainly rings true for our lifestyle as it’s so portable and easy to integrate into everyday chores and outings.”

One of her favourite features is the generously sized shopping basket, which made trips to the shops much easier, and she noted that her daughter was always very comfortable in it. The 4-wheel suspension ensures a smooth ride for most terrains, providing stability and comfort. Georgi also highlighted the brake, saying it was very easy to engage with just the tip of her shoe, which made it convenient during quick stops.

The Graco EeZeFold stands out for its one-second, one-hand fold, making it incredibly portable, while additional features like a UPF 50+ canopy and a multi-position recline enhance its usability. Although some testers wished for an adjustable handlebar and noted that the shoulder pads sometimes slid down, Georgi believes the pushchair offers excellent value for its price. Nuna Mixx Next©MOTHER&BABY

The Silver Cross Clic stroller earned a Bronze Award in the 2022 Mother&Baby Awards for Best Lightweight Buggy/Stroller, thanks to its combination of practicality, comfort, and ease of use. This sleek, compact stroller is ideal for parents who are always on the go, offering a lie-flat seat that’s suitable from birth to 22kg. It’s the perfect solution for families looking for a lightweight, easy-to-fold stroller that doesn’t sacrifice quality or functionality.

Our parent tester, Nikki, shared how this stroller has simplified her day-to-day life. She noted, “Getting our full pram in and out of the car is a hassle, and it’s also so bulky, so this lightweight stroller has really helped on both fronts!” She praised how compact the stroller is when folded down, making it easy to store in the car while leaving ample room for other items. The shoulder strap feature also impressed her, as it allowed her to carry the stroller without difficulty, freeing up her arms to manage other tasks.

Another tester, Ildiko, highlighted the stroller’s quick fold and removable handlebar, making it a great option for those who need a stroller that’s easy to pack away. She also appreciated the top window, which lets you check on your little one without disturbing their nap. “The stroller looks super comfortable,” she commented, “My LO sits happily in there and naps restfully. It uses hardly any space in the car, and being lightweight, it’s easy to pack away.”

The Silver Cross Clic stroller does have a few downsides. The pinch release to sit the baby back up requires both hands, making one-handed operation difficult. Some parents also found the stroller a bit wobbly at first, though it becomes more stable with use. The folding clip can be tricky to unlock with a baby in your arms, and the hood could be larger with an additional window for easier checking on your child.

What are the different types of prams and pushchairs?

Key features to look for in a pram or pushchair

Seat type

Some toddler seats have the option to parent-face or world-face, and can easily be swapped around. Other things to consider with seat type is how flat it can lie for naptimes or for newborns.

Fold

An important aspect as whether you're needing to store it in the car, on public transport o,r at home, you need a quick and easy fold on a pram so that it can make it easier when you're juggling folding and holding your little one. Some travel systems might require you to take off the set unit before folding too, whereas lighter strollers can fold into themselves and are often airline-compatible too.

Lifestyle

Think about where you're going to be taking your pram or pushchair, will it be used on public transport, stored in the car or at home for daily walks? Consider how big it is for this and also whether you'll be needing something more robust for off-road walks.

Storage basket

This is probably one of the most important features of your pram and pushchair, aespecially if you're in a hurry! The storage basket under the pram needs to suit your needs, will you be using it to store shopping, or a few items on a day out?

Wheels and tyres

If you live out in the countryside, you'll probably want to make sure the wheels and tyres of your baby's pushchair can handle the rough terrain so that your baby's ride isn't too bumpy.

Accessories

When buying a pushchair, there are several accessories that can enhance convenience, comfort, and functionality. Here are some useful accessories to consider:

Rain Cover

  • Protects your baby from rain, wind, and snow.

  • Usually custom-fitted to specific pushchair models.

Sunshade or UV Cover

  • Shields your baby from harmful UV rays

Cup Holder

  • Holds beverages for parents or bottles for the baby.

  • Some pushchairs come with built-in holders, while others offer detachable options.

Snack Tray

  • Provides a surface for your child to keep snacks and drinks.

  • Often includes compartments for easy access.

How much should you spend on a pram pushchair?

Price point

How much you spend depends on the quality and range of features that you're looking for.

Budget prams: £50 to £200

These are basic models with essentials features such as harness and under basket storage. They do the job without breaking the bank, however they're probably more suitable for occasional use.

Mid-range prams: £200 to £600

Often a better build quality with a more robust frame, these also come with better features such as larger storage space, adjustable handle bars and a better fold system. These are often ideal for everyday use, and also include travel systems.

High-end prams: £600 to £1,200+

These prams and pushchairs often offer more premium materials, advanced suspensions systems as well as a variety of accessories, such as foot muffs, cup holders and sometimes a matching baby bag.

They also offer a lot more comfort and durability, and are also quite stylish and streamlined.

FAQs

Do I need a carrycot for my newborn?

Babies should be in a flat lying position in their pram for at least the first six months of their life; this is important for their developing spine.

Not all pushchairs lie completely flat, so you'll need to check this before buying. Many frames come with a newborn carrycot, so it's good to have this as an option.

However, it is also, be aware that the term 'lie-flat' used by some pushchair manufacturers doesn't always mean that the pushchair can go completely flat; the term can be used to describe pushchairs that recline at least 150°', not the full 180° that you might expect.

What are the benefits of a travel system?

A travel system can be a great investment as it comes with everything you need, including newborn carrycot, car seat and toddler seat.

They come with a clip so you can change the function of your pushchair, and are often designed to be used from birth up to four years old.

How do I check for safety certifications and standards?

You can check the products' specifications or search online for safety information.

All prams, buggies, strollers and pushchairs should meet the British Standard 7409:1996 or BS EN 1888:2003 safety regulations according to ROSPA. If you're buying a second-hand pushchair, always check they comply with the latest regulations.

Other safety aspects to consider are:

• Check the brakes and tyres regularly for wear.
• Locking devices – Always make sure that the locking devices are fully locked before putting the baby in the chair. There should be no areas where your child's fingers could get stuck.
• Safety harness – Whether it's a three-point safety harness or a five-point harness, it's essential for the harness to be secured and fastened at all times when your baby is sitting in it.
• Stability – The bigger the base, the more stable the pushchair so check how stable it feels before fasting baby in. You also need to make sure you don't overload the pushchair with too many bags.
• All pushchairs, prams, strollers, and buggies have a weight limit so it's important to be aware of this before you put your child in it.

Are second-hand prams and pushchairs are good option?

Yes, it is generally okay to use second-hand prams, but there are some important considerations to ensure the safety and suitability of the pram for your child:

1. Ensure the pram meets current safety standards. Check for recalls on the model you are considering.

2. Inspect the pram for any damage, such as cracks, fraying straps, or broken parts. Make sure all the mechanisms, like brakes and folding parts, work properly.

3. Clean the pram thoroughly before use to remove any dirt, dust, or bacteria. This is particularly important for parts that come into contact with your baby.

4. Consider the age of the pram. Newer models often have updated safety features. Excessive wear and tear might compromise safety.

5. If possible, get the user manual. This can help you understand how to properly use and maintain the pram.

6. Make sure the pram is comfortable for your baby and fits their needs, such as the appropriate size and support for their age.

By carefully inspecting and considering these factors, you can safely use a second-hand pram and potentially save money.
