Britax Affinity 2

At a glance:

An amazing travel system from a brand you can trust, our panel of parent testers loved how intuitive, easy and affordable the Britax Affinity 2 was to use. Stand out features include the compact fold size and the fact it is freestanding when folded, and the bumper bar, which is easy to use one-handed with a wriggly toddler in your arms.

What they say:

“The Britax Affinity 2 is designed to ensure a smooth ride for parents and children, without compromising on style. The lightweight aluminium base is easy to transport and fold, with an automatic lock feature. Foam-filled rear wheels iron out bumps in the road and eliminate the worry of flat tyres when out and about. A large carrycot and seating surface ensures children will be comfortable at all times. In addition to its easy-to-transport practical design, parents can choose from a range of colours for both the base model and the soft goods, changing colours to suit their mood! ”

Would you recommend this to other mums?

The travel system is very good quality and stylish! It steers very well and I felt assured that my child was secured well. The multiple positions of the handle bar are really useful as it helps greatly when walking up hill, as it changes the way you can put your weight behind the buggy. It is also easy to get your child in and out of the system, as the clip in system connects and releases without getting stuck.

How has this product made your life easier?

Getting my toddler in and out of the buggy is greatly helped by the ease of the crossbar being removed by one button, rather than other buggies where you have to remove it completely, whilst pushing buttons on both sides. Also, the movement in the handle bars helped when walking up hill. It is also easy to keep clear and wipe down if required.

Would you choose this product to win?

I would choose for the Brittax Affinity 2 to win a Mother & Baby award as I thought it was stylish, sleek and really easier to manoeuvre. The break was easy to apply and worked well on a gradient. It also folded easily, fit well into my car boot and my toddler seemed very comfortable and secure. Most buggies my toddler wants to get out of quite promptly, however, he was happy to stay sat in this one!

What changes would you make to this product?

I felt that the basket under the buggy could have been bigger, or at least the back of the basket (closest to the parent) could have come up higher, as it did not hold much without the potential of something falling out. Also, a buggy clip would be required, as my bag did not fit over the handle bars as with most other buggies.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I have really enjoyed using the Britax Affinity 2 travel system and am pleasantly surprised by my experience. I would highly recommend this pushchair to a fellow parent as I think it is excellent value for money for the product you get – you have a pushchair, carrycot and car seat that you can use from birth to 15kgs! The Affinity 2 was extremely straightforward to assemble without using the manual. It can be folded with ease, it is lightweight and folds down small enough to fit into our car boot. I felt really proud pushing my six-month-old around the park in this buggy, which was able to withstand all-terrain surfaces. The suspension was great and my baby fell asleep instantaneously due to the comfort of the padded seat, the extendable canopy (allowing great coverage from the sun) and smooth ride.

How has this product made your life easier?

For a one-off purchase, you can have everything you need to get from A to B with your newborn baby. The car seat, carrycot and seat can be easily attached and taken off the chassis using the click and go system – this is a total breeze compared to others I have used in the past. This pushchair is incredibly easy to assemble, fold and put away. The buggy can be used on multi-terrain surfaces thanks to its great suspension, giving you the freedom to explore the city, go shopping or go out and about in a park with comfort and ease of steering.

Would you choose this product to win?

Yes, I would! I really think the quality of the materials, look and usability is at the standard of much dearer buggies that offer the same features, but at a greater cost. The Britax Affinity 2 has really been designed with the parent and baby in mind and have created a very practical and comfortable buggy at the fraction of the cost. I love how personalised you can make the pushchair too, with six different colour packs.

What changes would you make to this product?

The pushchair is pretty perfect in my eyes, but the only thing I would change is the Affinity 2's shopping basket size and it's accessibly. I found it far too small and difficult to access, especially when the seat was in its parent facing mode.

Tested by mum Charlotte White for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Before testing this pushchair, I’d never have looked at a Britax, but after living with this buggy, I would 100% recommend it to other mums. I was very pleased with how nice the design of the pram was – I was more than happy to show it off! It was really easy to fold down, and you can fold it with the seat still attached which is a big plus. It is smooth to push and affordable for a whole travel system. The bassinet is huge compared to other prams I've used and I like that you can safely strap baby in, whilst they are lying down.

How has this product made your life easier?

The Britax Affinity 2 made my life easier as it was so simple to use – from folding it down to get in the car, to how lightweight it was when I was carrying it up the stairs to my flat. The basket underneath is very large and accessible, which makes shopping and trips out easy. The bumper bar that twists to help you remove baby is fantastic and every pram should have this! During the hot weather, the panels in the hood that open to allow air flow have been a life saver. The wheels and overall handle of the pram has been great, as moving over uneven ground has proved a challenge on previous prams, as we live in the countryside. It handles really well up and down curbs and over different ground without getting stuck. Finally, it's great that you can fold with the seat on – a definite time saver.

Would you choose this product to win?

After being surprised at the amazing quality and design of this product I would definitely vote for it to win a Mother & Baby award. The fact it looks just as good as the very expensive prams on the market and performs so well is fantastic. The only thing I was disappointed about was that I didn’t know about this pram sooner, as I’d definitely have chosen it over my own, more expensive pushchair!

What changes would you make to this product?

The only thing I would change about this pushchair is the material on the bumper bar – I wish it was leatherette like the handle, as I think it would look nicer and be easier to clean.

Tested by mum Harriet Ainsworth for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I think that the Britax Affinity 2 is really good value for money – it is really easy to push and steer and I loved testing it. The blue colour we tested looked really stylish and the handle was comfy to grip and could easily be adjusted to suit parents of different heights. Collapsing the pushchair is really simple and doesn't need a degree to work out - always a bonus when sleep deprived! Also, the seat recline can be easily adjusted with one hand.

How has this product made your life easier?

The Britax Affinity 2 made my life easier as it was a really well designed single pram that made it so easy to nip about and look stylish at the same time! It had brilliant suspension and tyres that won't puncture, which meant that I felt confident taking this off road on dog walks. It is also easy to collapse and the wheels clip out, making it even more compact. It was also so easy to change the car seat and carry cot in and out of the chassis.

Would you choose this product to win?

Although the Britax Affinity 2 was excellent and very easy to use, I wouldn’t choose it over my current pram (a very similar three wheeled single pram), as it has a foot rest on the front which the Britax doesn’t have, but that is just personal preference.

What changes would you make to this product?

I was a little disappointed with the basket size, as I think it could do with being a little bigger – I don’t think you could get an awful lot of shopping in this one. That said, the basket cover is a great feature, as are the magnetic clips.

Tested by mum Ann-Marie Davidson for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I think this is a fantastic travel system, with a number of attributes that I would definitely recommend to a friend. It manoeuvres easily with one hand, it is sturdy yet light enough to lift in and out of the car easily, and has been well thought out in terms of design. There are a number of stand-out features, such as the magnetic ‘peep hole’ in the hood, which allows you to check on your baby without waking him. Also, the sizable foot brake pedal, the lovely padded seat and the strap covers definitely make this pram stand out. I also loved the easy snap on foot muff, which was attached with two press-studs – it was lovely and padded for warmth and could be easily attached in a hurry. I tested the Britax Affinity 2 with both my young baby and my almost two-year-old and it performed equally well for both.

How has this product made your life easier?

The easy recline function was particularly important for me, as I often swap the pram between different aged children – how easy it was to adapt the Britax was amazing. The only complaint I had in this department was the size of the release button on the front bar – it was very small and quite fiddly, and was quite tricky to use in a rush. The fact that the pushchair can be pushed and steered with one hand makes life much easier if you also have an older child whose hand you want to hold. What’s more, the pushchairs large wheels coped well going up and down curbs, and I felt in control of the pram at all times.

Would you choose this product to win?

I don’t think this product would be my winner, but it would come very close! It has an easy two-part fold, excellent quality of materials and moves easily into its different configurations – even the wheels are easily removed! However, for me the size of basket is a problem. Also, other prams on the market have a deeper hood, providing more sun protection. This means that as excellent a product as this is, personally, it would not be my winner.

What changes would you make to this product?

The one thing I would change about this product is the size of the basket. Whilst it is not tiny, I think increasing the basket size would make this a much more desirable pram. As a mother with two small children, who wants to walk to the shops for a few groceries, and take a change bag for the baby, I did not think the basket was big enough.  As I need to hold my elder child’s hand (meaning I can’t carry a shopping bag), I personally would look for a pram with a bigger basket.

Would you recommend the Britax Affinity 2 to other mums?

I love the Britax product range and have the 2012 model from my first child. This model is of a better quality and I love the versatility of going from the pram to the buggy attachment. Both attachments give a fanatic ride and its easy to fold. I love the fact that the pram covers are zipped in and can be easily removed to wash.

How did this product make your life easier?

The Britax Affinity 2 is great for a new mum to grow with her baby. The carrycot/pram can ensure baby can be transported in a sleeping position and then detached and brought indoors, it’s also great if you go somewhere and want to pop your baby down to sleep in familiar surroundings. Then the buggy is great to move up to the next level being able to have baby both rear and forward facing.

Would you choose this product to win?

I love the fact you can change between pram and buggy, and the car seat also fits on to the base so gives a greater variety of uses. The fact that I feel it is at a very competitive price point too for what you get also makes it a clear winner.

What changes would you make to this product?

If I could change one thing it would be to have it as a three wheeler. I found the four wheels a bit more bulky to navigate. Also it is a very chunky product and I know this could put some parents off who are limited for space within their cars. Especially with the combination of carrycot and buggy.

Tested by mum Jo Espley for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

The design looks really modern and the Britax Affinity 2 offers some excellent features for parents to wish their pram to last them from birth to toddler. The pram is what I would call a bouncy pram it was a joy to push.

How did this product make your life easier?

This is a full-size travel system pram yet is very car friendly. I have a small car yet the base and carrycot fit into my boot with no problem. I really liked how much coverage the hood offered when it was unzipped. Rain cover was installed with in a few seconds.

Would you choose this product to win?

This would be the travel system I would choose to buy for my new baby if I was a first-time parent. The carrycot is a great size and would last a baby until they are six months they can then move into the seat unit and you can also use this pram with a car seat. It was a really smooth ride for my child when I push them in this pram. The design was very attention grabbing and people were surprised when I said it was made by Britax.

What changes would you make to this product?

I would really love it if the Britax Affinity 2 had a bigger shopping basket. With a full-size travel system you would expect small room. Including some more accessories including a cup holder would attract more buyers. Was not keen on the bumper bar and it's fabric cover which cannot be removed. I would still buy regardless of these things.

Tested by mum Abigail Hammond for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

The Britax Affinity 2 is fantastic. It's so stylish, easy to use and comfy for baby. It's great how you can buy different colour bases and then colour packs so you can pretty much customise your own pushchair. It's so easy to fold and recline. Strapping baby in is easy, the brakes are great and it faces both ways and changes easily.

How did this product make your life easier?

Having a washable liner is great as pushchairs soon get dirty. It's great to be able to have it rear or forward facing and the recline is a easy one handed release. It is quite compact when collapsed and can be easily taken in and out of the car. The rain over is so easy to fit and the pram fits on easily and is perfect for tiny babies.

Would you choose this product to win?

I loved the Britax Affinity 2. Everything is so well thought out and it's so easy to use. I even like the way the straps click together. It's so easy to manoeuvre and the push bar extends for parents’ comfort. My baby was so happy in it, he loved being able to see me and he soon fell sound asleep.

What changes would you make to this product?

My only gripes were that maybe the basket could be a bit bigger and that overall it was quite expensive, but I guess you get what you pay for. However you don't need to get all the extras or you don't have to get them all in one go. It did take quite a while to set it all up, but I was more than happy with it when it was complete.

Tested by mum Olivia Hurst for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Loved the Britax Affinity 2. Excellent value for money for a travel system. Gorgeous design, love that you can choose a colour pack and then easily change it if you have another baby. This is a full travel system so you can attach a carry cot, pram seat or the car seat. Wonderful to have a choice. Glides along the pavement with ease and offers a smooth ride for the baby.

How did this product make your life easier?

The pram was so easy to assemble! The seat unit was really easy to change from front facing to rear facing, the pram glides along the uneven pavement where I live - excellent suspension. Very easy to get on and off the bus/train. The extending canopy kept the sun off the baby on hot days - it was great coverage. Easy red/green brake system so you know with a quick glance whether it is on or not.

Would you choose this product to win?

I have a big baby and I know that the seat unit will last a while as it is so roomy compared to some of the other prams. It's a really eye catching pram and comes with the bits you would hope - rain cover and fabrics. Being able to change the colour pack is a massive positive for this pram as if it gets dirty you can make the pram look like new again for a reasonable price.

What changes would you make to this product?

I did get a flat tyre when using this pushchair so plastic wheels at the back would have been much better (like they are at the front) but that was only a minor issue. It also didn't come with a pump like some of the other prams do (unless it was missing?), that would be handy for consumers especially in the middle of nowhere with a baby.
